Melia's Story

Melia is a stunning, sensitive soul who’s already endured more than most dogs should in a lifetime. She first arrived at the shelter in October 2022 after being found alone and hungry, abandoned in an empty apartment when her owners moved away. Though a family member briefly reclaimed her, Melia sadly returned in June 2023. A foster placement followed, but she was returned once again in January 2024 after an incident in the home. Through it all, Melia has held onto her gentle spirit and continues to show us the depth of her heart. She’s making steady, meaningful progress and truly shines once she's outside of the kennel. She loves peaceful walks, exploring the outdoors, and quiet companionship with people she trusts. Melia is looking for a dog-free, adult-only home with someone who understands that trust takes time and that love and consistency can work wonders. She’s not the kind of dog who’ll dive into a new home with ease, but she is the kind who will reward your kindness with deep, lasting loyalty. If you're someone who believes in second chances and has room in your heart for a dog who's still learning that the world can be kind, Melia is waiting to meet you!

If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:
E: Adoption@hempsteadny.gov
E: Foster@hempsteadny.gov
E: Rescue@hempsteadny.gov
T. 516.785.5220

#adoption #adoptme #newyorkadoptables #opttoadopt #mixedbreed #lovemydog #dogsofnewyork #longislandanimalshelter #animalshelters #cutepup #puppy #dog #doggo #rescuedog #rescue #rescued #ideserveachance #ideservelove #goodpup #dogcute #doglovers #pawfection #ilovemydog #dogofNY #adorabull #dogsofinsta #instadog
