Melbourne's Story

Melbourne is typical of many small breed dogs we rescue - reserved with strangers and shy initially but if given the time to blossom, really bonds with her person, is affectionate and cuddly. She will need a patient person willing to give her a few days in the home that are low pressure and allow her to warm up. She is not aggressive, just shy.

- 17 pounds and approximately 2 years old

- Possibly a Chihuahua mix

- Fenced yard preferred

- Rescued after being dumped with a group of small dogs in a rural California orchard. The whole group was trapped and rescued out of the orchard by our rescue partner before something bad happened to them.

- Medium to lower energy level

- Good with other dogs or could be fine solo. She is fairly indifferent to other dogs and more interested in bonding with humans.

- Good with cats. Fostered with two cats and is polite and does not bother them.

- Kids ages 12+ if there are kids in the home, only because she can be skittish and overwhelmed by a busy, noisier home.

- Doing excellent with her potty habits and no potty accidents in foster when kept on a structured routine of taking her out to potty.

- Comfortable in her crate. Goes in on her own to nap and sees it as a cozy, safe place.

- Toy enthusiast! Loves to play with her toys.

- Very smart girl who would benefit from someone willing to provide enrichment, chew toys, puzzle toys, and engage her.

- Enjoys cuddling in bed or on the couch with her person. Will roll over for belly scratches.

Melbourne has so much potential and has been in foster with us building her skills since January 4th. She's improved by leaps and bounds and just needs a nurturing, dog savvy person to help her continue to build confidence.

Spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Adoption fee also includes a free wellness exam at one of our four partner veterinary clinics.

$400 adoption fee

Fostered in Milwaukie, Oregon

APPLY TO ADOPT MELBOURNE ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG

We are volunteer run and most of us work a normal day job and do rescue work in our free time. 2. If your application seems like a good match for the dog you are applying to adopt, we will call you to talk more about the dog you're interested in. 3. We provide you the foster home's contact information and you set up a time to go and visit the dog you're interested in. 4. If you decide to proceed with the adoption, we have you complete our Adoption Contract and pay the adoption fee. 5. We drop our dogs off at their new homes to make sure all is well. 6. We email you the dog's vet records and microchip information.
