Mei's Story
Please include your phone number in your email as we do not use an online application. Thank you!

Mei is one of four puppies born to mommy Amy on June 10, 2015. In an unusual situation for a rescue organization, we know Mei’s grandmother and aunts as they were in the PUP rescue program a year ago. Grandma (Bathsheba) was a 40#er that we believed to be a Kelpie Shepherd X. She had a wonderful disposition and we were not at all surprised when Amy came to us that she was the most gentle and sweet mommy ever. Again, unlike most rescue, Amy came to us early enough in her pregnancy that she had good prenatal care and plenty of good food prior to giving birth. All this led to good outcomes for her 4 puppies. These pups have basked in the good life, never missing a meal, surrounded by lots of other puppies and dogs. Mei and her siblings had a big bonus. Amy’s sister, Maya, also was surrendered to PUP and she too was pregnant. Although a full week separated the birth of the two litters, the mommy-sisters embarked on a ‘co-parenting’ arrangement with both moms caring for all the kids. It was like having a live-in grandma. EXCEPT, there was one of them too. Also present in the foster home is an elderly female who obviously didn’t share in the nursing duties, but happily participated in other puppy nurturing tasks. Grandma Bathsheba, Amy and Maya all weigh about 40# so we expect that these puppies will be in that same range, but they seem quite robust and might grow to be a bit larger. The adopter should be willing to love and accept the pup if she is somewhat larger than anticipated. Mei is doing very well with house breaking, using the papers 100% of the time. She is well socialized to adults, children and dogs of all shapes and sizes. Mei is off to an excellent start. The first 3-4 months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Her adopter must be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations meeting humans on skate boards, wearing hats, carrying tools, even lying on the floor. Give puppy many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. If good doggie social skills are not learned during these early months it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store and puppy socialization classes and later obedience classes and trips to the off leash park are ideal learning opportunities. Mei has been vet checked, had her first vaccination and has been wormed twice. She will need two additional routine puppy shots plus her rabies vaccination at 12 weeks at the owner’s expense. The cost of her spay is included in her adoption fee if she is altered at the PUP vet. There is no discount for adopters who choose to use their own vet for the spay, but it still must be completed by the scheduled date. Her adoption fee is $300.
