Meeka's Story

Hi, my name is Meeka! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Aloof, Timid, Affectionate
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown History, Likely okay with dog-savvy respectful kids.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history, extended SLOW & SUPERVISED introductions and interactions.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, all intros done at WHS to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can do Apartment Living: No, thanks! Due to high anxiety and energy Meeka would do best in a house.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Not required but always recommended.
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Nope, good to go.

Meeka is a young husky who has truly been through the ringer these past few months. She was first found as a stray and lovingly passed between several homes as people tried to locate her family. When no one came forward, Meeka found her way to the shelter where she was adopted and unfortunately returned at not fault of her own—and while she’s safe now, the journey has left her feeling overwhelmed and unsure. Shelter life has been stressful for her, and she’s still learning that it’s okay to relax and trust again.

Meeka is a sensitive soul. New people and unfamiliar situations can make her timid at first, and she’ll need time, patience, and gentle understanding to come out of her shell. But once she feels comfortable, Meeka’s true personality shines, she’s affectionate, sweet, and delightfully quirky, with all the charm you’d expect from a husky. Meeka is dreaming of a calm, stable home with lots of love, consistent routine, and a family who understands what it truly means to raise a young husky. She’ll do best with adopters who have realistic expectations, are willing to go at her pace, and can help her build confidence as she settles into her new life

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
