Mazzie (and Phoenix)'s Story

These two bonded female Goldendoodles arrived in foster care after losing the person who loved them most — and despite that heartbreak, they showed up with tails wagging and temperaments so impossibly good that Foster Mom is still not entirely convinced they're real dogs and not elaborate golden-furred angels in disguise.

- Kids? Love them. Dogs? Love them. Cats? Love them. Strangers who walked in two seconds ago? Already their best friends. Fair warning — their arrival greeting involves enthusiastic jumping and joyful barking, because when you're this happy to meet people, subtlety is simply not on the menu.
- Every night, these two walk themselves directly into their shared crate at bedtime like the world's most self-sufficient roommates and remain quiet until morning.
- Housebroken for the most part. They know what's expected. They're doing their best. Aren't we all.
- Great in the car. And — here's the kicker — they do not act their age. Not even slightly. Foster Mom would have guessed years younger for both. They clearly did not get the senior dog memo.

Mazzie, Age 11 - Mazzie is what we in the business call extra chonky — and she has absolutely zero regrets about it. She never turns down a treat. When the day is done, Mazzie's happy place is curled up right next to you on the couch, warm and content, living her absolute best life. She weighs 25 pounds of pure, unapologetic comfort dog.

Phoenix, Age 13 - Phoenix is, frankly, unfairly beautiful. With looks like she hit the genetic lottery, she carries herself accordingly. At 19 pounds she's slightly more independent than her sister — emphasis on slightly — and while she may not velcro herself to you quite as immediately as Mazzie, make no mistake: she still wants to be in your world. She's just a little more chic about it.

Mazzie and Phoenix lost their person. They didn't lose their joy, their sweetness, or their enormous capacity to love — and they have so much of it left to give.
They just need a couch, a crate, a treat or two, and someone to be theirs again.

If you are interested in finding out more about Mazzie and Phoenix, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser:

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog

Mazzie and Phoenix are being fostered in Shrewsbury, MA.

The combined adoption fee is $625.

Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!.

Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram!

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Broken Tail Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our Adoption Process Broken Tail Rescue is looking for responsible and caring people to give a dog or cat their much-needed second chance at happiness. To adopt from us, you must first complete an application, which you can complete online here: https://www.brokentailrescue.org/adopt/ Once we receive your application, the foster parent or application team will be in touch with you within a few days to discuss the application and the pet you are applying for. If the pet is a good match for your family, you will then be asked to meet the pet at the foster parent’s home, if applicable, or come to one of our cat adoption centers during our adoption hours. We ask that all members of the household come out to meet the pet. If you are applying for a dog, all current dogs in the household need to come meet the dog as well. If the animal is a good fit for your home (canines only), we will then check your references. We ask for two personal references and the name of the vet that you currently use or have used in the past. The last step in the adoption process is the home visit (canines only). We just want to make sure your home is generally a safe place for the pet to live and confirm the address listed on the application. After the home visit, the adoption can be completed! Paperwork is completed at the foster home, and you can take home your new pet! While the process may seem extensive, it generally is not a long, drawn-out process – we can move as quickly as schedules allow, and most adoptions are completed in under a week. However, we feel it is important to take time to make sure we are matching the pet to the correct home. We would hate for a pet to be returned to us because of a hasty decision. Adoption Guidelines The following are just a few initial guidelines you should consider before deciding to adopt: Some adoptions will require adopters to enroll the dog in training classes as a condition of adoption There may be additional adoption requirements for puppies (puppy socialization classes, someone home during the day, etc.) Renters must have landlord’s permission Adopters must be 21 years of age or older All adoptive homes must be stable, supportive, and capable and willing to meet all financial and veterinary needs of the animal Adoption Fees Adoption fees help defray the cost of transportation, care, and medical treatment. Dogs Our adoption fees are generally between $300 and $400 for most adult dogs and puppies and are decided on a case-by-case basis. All dogs adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and started on preventive, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment if needed, and microchipped. Cats Our adoption fee varies by age for cats and kittens: 1 Kitten (under 12 months): $350 2 Kittens: $650 1 Young Cat (1-4yrs): $275 2 Young Cats: $500 1 Adult Cat (5-9 yrs): $225 2 Adult Cats: $400 Senior (10+ yrs): $150 Special Needs Cat: $150 or TBD 2 Senior or Special Needs: $250 or TBD All cats adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV tested, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment, and microchipped.
