Mazikeen's Story

Mazikeen aka Mazi lived her life on a chain before rescue. She was severely underweight and malnourished, only weighing 46 lbs. Thankfully a local shelter stepped in and worked with the owner, providing food for Mazi and she started to gain some weight. In December owner agreed to surrender Mazi to rescue and Mazi made her way to us!

6 year old Mazi has made such a transformation since arriving at her foster home and now weighs a healthy 80 lbs. We think she is a Pyrenees/Lab mix and what a beautiful girl she is!

Mazi is playful, loves snuggles and being outside. She is friendly meeting people, other dogs, and cats. Her foster mom says she minds well and is easy to train. She can be vocal/use her voice when she wants some love and attention :) Mazi knows how to sit, shake, down, and is working on leave it. She is food motivated and does resource guard her food some from other dogs. We are not surprised at this with her prior history of being underfed, however she does redirect easily. Mazi is potty trained and is trustworthy in the house when you aren't home. She likes to play with toys for a short period and loves the resident German Shepherd, Jake, in her foster home. They especially enjoy their outside time together. Mazi is a barker- will let you know when the mail carrier or delivery person has arrived!-but does redirect easily. Mazi enjoys leash walking, but does pull some. We are working on that. She loves to go for car rides. We would love for her next car ride to be to her furever home!
Mazi is being fostered in Bourbon, MO.

Mazi is up to date on vaccines, up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. She still needs to be spayed before she can be officially adopted.

Adoption Requirements
*A secure, visible fence
*A home visit
*A vet reference with at least a two year vet history

Adopters can be located in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas. We are able to help transport to those states.

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri's Adoption Policy
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence and children in the home must be 12 or older. In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history. All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 1 year and older: $400 Puppies under 1 year: $450 All of our rescued Pyrenees are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs 1 year and older), microchipped, up-to-date on immunizations, and up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety. From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or video chat if that isn't an option. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you. Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
