Maya & Jazz - COURTESY LISTING's Story

COURTESY LISTING FOR OWNER – CALL 701-269-6869

Jazz and Maya (black) are two very special, unique and wonderful dogs. They are young, only 3 years old. They are half-sisters and are very bonded to each other. They do most everything together and will even sleep in the same kennel. They are loyal and will follow you around like once you have earned their trust. They are very friendly and they love attention. Jazz loves belly rubs. Jazz & Maya are both spayed and current on their vaccinations, including rabies. Maya is also microchipped and that information will be provided to the new owner. Jazz has a hernia, but it doesn’t bother her.

Jazz loves chasing a jolly ball. Maya will chase a tennis ball a few times, and then she loses interest. Maya's favorite thing to do is sniff. She has a huge hunting instinct. She attacked a cat as well at another home, so it's probably best if Maya and Jazz go to a home without any cats.

Maya and Jazz came to their current home with abusive pasts. They were very mistreated and beaten. And we suspect it was by a man because they seem to bond with women more so than men. At one checkup with a vet, he felt Jazz's jawline and told me it had been damaged in the past very badly. Because of this, she is very protective about her head space. If she is startled or anyone moves too quickly towards her, she will snap her jaw. She does NOT attack. It is simply how she reacts to fear, and she only ever does that when she feels threatened.

You can have both of them around other people, but you must go slow about it. They warm up to women quicker than men, and may bark more at men. Don't ever allow anyone to rush up to them. They must go slowly and the dogs must feel safe to go up to them on their own. They don't feel safe if everyone and anyone gets into their personal space. Because of their abusive past, they have trust issues, and it will take some time to earn their trust. But after the period of time when you've shown them you are not going to hurt them, they will be your most loyal companion.

They really are good dogs, despite their faults, and they really, really want to please. They love to lay by your feet in the house and if it's something you allow, would love to cuddle with you on the couch as well. They love attention, belly rubs and head scratches. Dogs never forget, so these dogs will probably never be "normal" dogs, but they will still make wonderful dogs for just the right people who understand dogs who have been abused and mistreated in the past. They deserve to have a long and happy life! They are looking for a long happy life preferably in the country as they have a lot of energy and need to run. PLEASE CALL THE OWNER @ 701-269-6869 FOR COMPLETE DETAILS.

Anyone inquiring about Courtesy Listings with the Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals (SVFA) should contact the current pet owner for answers to any questions and for final approval and placement.
