Maxx (NO MEN)'s Story
Maxx is an almost 3-year-old longhaired dachshund. He was a breeder release who is so shut down, likely because of his previous life. He is not potty trained, but we see this in breeding studs kept in a crate most of the day. Yes, even AKC breeders do this.

He was adopted by a lovely couple who neutered him, got him vaccinated, and had him chipped. Unfortunately, he is still terrified of men, despite the last male in his home being patient and not pushing his boundaries.

He has been to our vet for lab work, a heartworm test, and to get a prescription for prozac. Despite preferring females to males, he still doesn't come to women for affection or to be petted. He will accept food and hand-feed around meals and really enjoys walks. He likes other dogs, but doesn't always play.

This boy will be with us a while as we work with him on socialization.

His ideal home:

Home setting with a secure fence
Companion small or medium dogs that are gentle and well-adjusted
No men
No kids
Quiet
Owners who never yell or raise their voice

He is gorgeous, but this is not a dog where a loving home is enough; this has to be a very patient and regimented home that is disciplined enough to create structure, consistency, and not expect results in one or even three months. He will take closer to a year to warm up in his forever home unless we start making progress in his foster home first.

To be considered for Maxx, please apply on our website:

portlanddachshundrescue.org/adoptionform
