Max Sinatra's Story

Max has been having a great time here in Fishtown! Getting lots of walks, playing with balls, and meeting lots of friends! One of his new friends made an Instagram of their walks! Check out his strut at @walkingmax_sinatra

Max came to ACCT Philly when his previous owner, who had cared for him for several years, could no longer continue due to their age. Despite this major transition, Max has been adjusting to shelter life and showing staff more of his gentle, easygoing personality each day.

Max presents as a friendly and approachable dog with soft eyes, a loose body, and relaxed tail wags when greeting people. He is easy to leash and enjoys getting out for walks, where he may pull a bit but remains manageable. In the yard, Max tends to be an independent explorer, preferring to sniff and take in his surroundings, but he is tolerant of handling and allows affection, often choosing when he's ready to engage. As he becomes more comfortable, he has shown increasing interest in treats and interaction. Max also has a playful side-he especially enjoys tennis balls and will happily chase and carry them around. In playgroup settings, he has demonstrated the ability to coexist with other dogs and respond well to guidance. Overall, Max is a medium-energy dog who would do well in a home that gives him time to settle in while continuing to build confidence and trust.

Videos:
*NEW* Max Sinatra : https://youtube.com/shorts/TooAyqmlezM?si=7YmCvXgeLz9qpWFd

Lulu and Max Sinatra leashed meet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q01Bf3Dk-l0

Lulu and Max Sinatra drop leash 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHBbwRtqMRI

Lulu and Max Sinatra drop leash 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJun1BNdBoU

Lulu and Max Sinatra drop leash 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKzQWursXCw

Max Sinatra loves scratchies!: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/lC1TWs54PfM

Max Sinatra loves pets!: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/14Njh8rQ8uw

Rusty, Asphalt, and Max Sinatra (brief conflict): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMKvn2CY1yM

Playgroup 4/18: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIYI4VQJvunw3aomk91PPUtu

Behavioral Notes

04/19/2026
Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel, mid level tail wags, loose body, soft eyes, ears forward. Did not eat any treats that were offered.

Leash Skills: Easy to leash, put his head right through. Once leashed came right out and pulled mild to moderately on leash. Walked through the kennels with ears forward, mid level tail wags, loose body, closed mouth.

Sociability: Mainly interested in sniffing around the yard, did not come over when I called to him. He allowed all handling when I came over to him with soft eyes, ears back, slightly open mouth, loose body, loose mid level wags. Would walk away when I stopped petting. At first was not eating any treats offered, towards the end of our time in the yard he was eating the treats off the ground, did not take any treats from my hand.

Play: Loved tennis balls, would chase them around and carry them around the yard. Trades for treats.

Dog Interaction: n/a

Return to Kennel: Walked back with the same body language as walking out. Went right into kennel and leash was removed easily.

Color Level: Experienced Gold

Recommendations and considerations:

4/18
Playgroup 4/18: Highly steerable with spray bottle and shake can (5/5). Neutral, relaxed during gate greetings, occasional mid-level wags. Slow entry into yard, exchanged appropriate if slightly aroused greetings with the other dogs: piloerect, hypersalivating, chattering, lip licking, high tail. (Over)corrected for space only once, after having been in the yard for ~10 minutes: while in the corner of the yard, Max was approached by Asphalt from behind, which led to him growling and air snapping. Was easily steered off with a loud noise.

04/16/2026 Intake
Pet's name: max
How long have you had your pet? 5 years
Reason for surrender: too old to care for him
I am surrendering my: dog
I got my pet from: breeder or pet store
Is your pet microchipped: no
Is your pet spayed/neutered: not sure
Describe your pet's personality, their likes/dislikes, and general behavior in the home: good dog
Who lives in the home with your pet: 93 years old
Is your pet housebroken/litter trained: yes
Does your pet live inside, outside, or both: inside
For dogs, is your dog crate trained: partially/working on it
What is your pet's energy level like: medium energy, enjoys some activity
Do you have any behavioral concerns with your pet?
