Max's Story

I am so itty bitty, can you believe how small and cute I am?! I am a curious, affectionate, social, and playful guy who enjoys meeting new friends! I love yummy treats and food, play with YOU and toys, I also love learning new tricks! I’ll need a cozy and comfy retreat all my own, gentle and dog-savvy people, and of course opportunities to explore and sniff!

Kids:
10+, does not enjoy being picked up; may guard food

Dogs:
Friendly sniffing, prefers gentle play, can be overwhelmed by active dogs

Heartworm positive – Max has completed his heartworm treatment! He's doing great -- he just needs a little more time with restricted activity to finish his recovery.

More about Max from his foster:

Max is a very outgoing and fun pup! He’s completed his heartworm treatment and is doing really well; he does need to be on activity restriction for a few more weeks to finish his recovery. He’s an energetic boy and can’t wait to go on longer walks and hikes! He adores his much larger foster siblings and really wants to play with them – he can definitely hold his own with larger dogs. He does prefer slow, gentle introductions. If there are people and dogs around, he wants to be right in the middle of the action!

In order to keep him occupied while his activity is restricted, we’ve been giving him lots of brain games like lick pads and snuffle mats. He really enjoys them! He’s food-motivated (this boy LOVES cheese), so he’s been easy and fun to train – he’d love to learn more! He also loves toys – he’ll shred the soft ones in no time flat, so tougher toys like Kongs are best.

Max is pretty independent, so he needs a little time to warm up to people. Once he does, he enjoys being on your lap getting lots of cuddles. It’s best to let him get up there himself – it’s tempting to pick him up because he’s little, but he doesn’t enjoy that.

He sleeps quietly in a gated room at night, but we think he’d do fine in a crate, too. He’s just a great little pup who’ll be a wonderful companion!
