Max's Story
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information.

Max is at risk for behavior reasons. Max is dog reactive and was kept in a pop-up crate initially for space. When moved to the dog room, he began to deteriorate, jumping up and biting at the leash, persistently making him a handling risk in care. We have been better able to manage him in a crate in an office, which is not an ideal living situation in the shelter. Medically, he is overweight.

Max is a social, affectionate, and playful male dog who loves being part of the family. He enjoys spending his time wherever his people are, especially relaxing in the living room, and has a wonderful balance of playful energy and laid-back couch potato moments. Max loves car rides and is always happy to join you on your next adventure. He also enjoys playing tug-of-war, spending time with his toys, and earning treats-he isn't picky and appreciates just about any snack!

Max walks 3-4 times a day and has mild to moderate leash pulling. His walks are kept short, usually around 10 minutes, because he tires easily and often enjoys taking a break by lying in the grass before heading home. He is crate trained and is comfortable relaxing in a large crate for up to eight hours when needed. Max also knows basic cues such as "sit" and "stay."

His previous owner described him as a sweet, gentle dog who may look intimidating at first but is truly a big teddy bear. He can be a little clingy at times, but that's usually his way of letting you know he's bored and ready for a toy or some playtime. After getting his exercise and having some fun, Max is happiest curling up for a long nap by your side. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who enjoys both playtime and relaxation, Max could be the perfect addition to your family.
