Max's Story
Max is a sweet, joyful dog with the softest fur that is hard to resist. He may start out a little shy, but if given time, he will reward you with loyalty, love and a whole lot of joy. Max does well with most dogs but appreciates proper, slow greetings to get to know each other. He would do best in a home who can give him the love and exercise he deserves. He may do well with a furry friend, but prefers his mealtimes managed with space from other animals-Just a boy who prefers to enjoy his meals alone.

Feedback from outings with volunteer(s):
*****
After such a positive experience with 16 months old Shepherd mix Max at Anarchy Friday, I was convinced that he was ready for some serious exercise....and deserved it!

We headed out to the Purgatory Flats TrailHead early this morning (across from Purgatory Ski Resort) . As usual, I did not hear a peep from Max the whole 30 minute ride up there.

I am not sure whether he ever saw snow before since he was surrendered as a one year old pup. Well, this handsome young male was ready and delighted to frolic at the trailhead while we waited for my friends and their 2 dogs.

Boy, he got so enthusiastic when he was introduced to the other two pups. The snow, the sun, the fresh air, his new companions and even us humans all on the trail! He could not ask for more. While heading down to the Flats, he spent a lot of time running around, back and forth, playful but attentive to his new friends.

It was really touching to see his puppy-like positive reactions given his current life in a kennel. He gave it all he had. He was not even hungry when we stopped for lunch, too busy having fun.

On the way back up, Max rallied and walked by us. Obviously all three dogs were starting to calm down after a tremendous outburst of energy.

After this third outing with him, I became aware that despite the distraction of the other two dogs, Max never lost sight of the humans. He checked in regularly, like it was natural. like he had done it all his young life. Touching and quite exceptional according to my friends who've been around a a lot of dogs.

It is easy to imagine Max next to an active person willing to exercise him. This lovely pup seems to be suited for any outdoor activities and most importantly stand by you, loyal.

Confident, he is also affectionate and would easily and quickly integrate the life of a new family given his very easy going and cheerful disposition.

What is this terrific dog still doing at the shelter?

*****
I was invited to hang out with Max at Anarchy.

Let me remind everyone that Max is the best in the car. He is always happy to jump in the back and remains so quiet and calm! I've rarely seen that especially with a 16 months old dog.

We swung by Re-Home first to give Max the opportunity to relax, smell, forget his kennel. I definitely like that store. They systematically offer treats and water to our companions, a plus.

There we bumped into a friend with her older boy (read dog). She offered to join us at Anarchy. The more the merrier! The introduction between boys was sweet and uncomplicated.

Once at Anarchy, Max was greeted by a younger and bigger dog. The attraction was instant.
They got to know each other, played, jumped on each other, well, you get the picture. The 2 boys were having a grand old time. Eventually another dog got into the mix.

When my friend left, Max rested for a while. Customers kept complimenting him for his overall behavior, friendliness and confidence despite his long stay at LPCHS (4 months already).
