Mavis's Story

Hi, my name is Mavis! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Goofy, Playful, High Energy
-Can Live with Kids: Likely okay with STURDY dog-savvy children ages 8+ (age up to counselor discretion)
-Can Live with Cats: Has lived with cats in the past. SLOW & SUPERVISED introductions always recommended. Likely overwhelming to shy or senior cats.
-Can Live with Dogs: Mavis could live with a TOLERANT and energetic dog of similar size. NO SMALL DOGS.
-Can do Apartment Living: Larger apartments / condos might be considered with a solid mental and physical exercise plan in place (maybe doggie day care). Up to counselor's discretion.
-Potty Trained: Working on it! Has done really well in shelter but history of accidents.
-Bite History: Nope.
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: No, but would be highly beneficial!
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes a spay and microchip provided by WHS prior to going home.

-Additional Information:
Meet Mavis, a bright-eyed, big-eared young German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a spirit ready for adventure. Whether it is a scenic weekend hike, a lively game of fetch in the yard, or a simple neighborhood stroll, Mavis is ready to jump right in and be your ultimate sidekick. Mavis is searching for an active home that can offer a wonderful balance of stability, clear structure, and plenty of love. Her ideal family understands the joy and commitment that comes with raising a young working breed. She will thrive with adopters who are eager to provide proper nutrition, regular exercise, daily mental enrichment, routine grooming, and lifelong veterinary care. To help Mavis blossom into the best dog she can be, positive reinforcement training classes are highly recommended. A reward-based approach will go a long way in boosting her confidence, polishing her manners, and building an unbreakable bond between you and your new best friend. If you are ready for the fun, rewarding journey of welcoming a fun-loving young dog into your heart, Mavis is ready to fill your life with boundless enthusiasm.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
