Prince Edward County Animal Control's Adoption Policy
Our adoption process starts out by filling out our adoption application. Once received, we will review and either approve or deny the application. Once approved, we will arrange a time to meet the pets that are available for adoption, as adoptions are by appointment only. We do not pressure our potential adopters into adopting, because we want them to be comfortable with the animal they may adopt and want it to be the right fit for their family. Once all paperwork has been completed and the pet is ready to go home, the adopters have 30 days to have their new pet spayed or neutered. All meet and greets and adoptions are by appointment only by calling 434-223-7310. If you want to bring a pet with you to the meet and greet, the pet must be up to date on vaccinations. If you are interested in adopting and live two counties away or further, any pet adopted must be spayed or neutered before it can leave the shelter. While the expense falls under the adopter, the shelter can coordinate drop off and pick up from any local vet within 30 minutes of the shelter.
