Maui's Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Maui. Save-A-Mutt has an unwritten rule - no Malinois'. But rules are meant to be broken and when Maui and her family were dumped in a park, we said we could take at least her. Mommy appears to be a purebred Mal and we think Maui is likely a Mal / Shepherd.

Normally when we dogs off transport, we like to wait a bit before posting them for adoption. But Maui got into her foster home and after just a few hours was like part of the family. She's currently in foster with our puppy coordinator and two other dogs, one GSD and one small breed. Maui went on a walk and was so responsive to learning and correction. She's pretty soft - loves to be with her people, a bit of a velcro dog - again, learning the ropes. She was mostly in an outdoor kennel situation before coming to SAM, but she's doing good in the house. When she first met both resident dogs, she was very tail tucked and respectful.

Maui does not like her crate much, but quiets down after a few minutes. She's very treat motivated and an attentive girl - go figure. We think she would be a great companion for someone that wants do lots of fun training, and walks or hikes. She's playful and seems to be learning what toys are all about. We think she's a really nice dog! Maui has met the foster's cat and she was super freaked out - the cat is a force of nature. So for us, it was a good response. She will need housebreaking work, but is learning quickly. Her ideal home has a large fenced yard, shepherd experience and an active lifestyle. 😍

This puppy is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. At 9.5 months old - she's 60#, a little chunky, but she looks great.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Save-A-Mutt requires a training contract and refundable deposit (depending on previous dog experience) on our larger breed puppies. You pick a trainer in your area, and upon completion of a 6+ week training class, we will refund the deposit.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $475 + $100 refundable training deposit. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
