MATTY (cc 7265)'s Story

Oh my, oh my.... Look at the 'Before' and 'After' Photos!!! Matty come in so severely matted and such a mess! You can see from one of his photos what he came in looking like. Who would have believe there was such a handsome dog under all that mess!!! What ever happened to allow him to become so matted we'll never know. Was he totally neglected? or did he get lost for a long, long time and the fur just grew. Whatever it was, now he's handsome and happy again.

Matty's been to the vet. Their groomer worked her magic, and a truly handsome dog emerged.... (I guess it goes without saying that Matty is a high maintenance dog!) The vet thinks Matty is only about 4 years old, and he weighs only 16 lbs. His Heartworm and Lyme disease tests were negative, as were his fecal and Giardia tests. He was brought up to date on his Distemper and Rabies vaccinations, and was neutered. Matty had been limping and the vet found some of the tightly wound fur had cut into his back leg just above his foot, so she took care of that, too - cleaning the wound and making sure there was no infection. Now, Matty's back at the shelter - a very happy little dog - and ready for a new home with a family that cares.....

Matty's been a shelter dog, found a stray so we have no idea of his background; and we learn a little more every day he's at the shelter. Were there children in the home he had? We don't know. Was he housebroken? Again, we don't know. (However, we do know that he does his business when taken outside, but we'll also find he's messed in his cage. That could mean he's just not taken out often enough or that he sees no reason to hold it in a shelter/boarding situation.)

If you'd like to learn more about Matty, or if you have questions about adoption, you can give us a call. (WOAWL 973-736-8689). Or, speak with an animal control officer through the West Orange Health Department at 973-325-4120. Best yet, stop by and take a look. The Township's Animal Control Facility (commonly called The Animal Shelter) is located at 311 Watchung Avenue, West Orange; and is open Monday through Friday 4:30 - 5:30.... (Occasionally additional hours can be made by appointment with one of the animal control officers.) Stop by and take a look. You might just fall in love!

...........

......
