Mateo's Story
Mateo is a very sweet senior guy. He is a go-with-the-flow kind of pup who is simply happy to be included. Currently living in a foster home, Mateo has been relaxing and enjoying his time with the human and dog housemates - but he's ready for his happy ending to find a forever home of his own.

Mateo enjoys the simply things in life, like relaxing outside, sitting by the fire or snuggling up to a friend. He's never met a stranger and his prance intensifies the more excited he gets to see a buddy, though he is a polite boy who still remembers to keep his four paws on the ground. He loves butt scratches and spins around for more if you stop too soon. Mateo also loves other dogs - he is very tolerant of the various sizes and personalities of dogs in his foster home.

Mateo is an easy-going addition to the household. He doesn't need a ton of exercise to be content, but still loves his walks and gets excited to go with you. He goes into his crate easily and sleeps through the night and now that he knows the routine, he is pretty much housebroken. Mateo's whole body moves like a wiggle worm due to a suspected chronic neurological abnormality - but it doesn't seem to bother him. He is comfortable and happy and living his senior years to the fullest, and he's ready to find a home of his own.

Mateo is estimated to be around 9 years old and weighs 50 lbs. You must schedule a meet with a dog in advance - we are not currently accepting walk-ins. Please look online first to see if there are any dogs you think would be a good fit for your home before scheduling a meet. To get the process started, visit www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog and fill out the form. One of our adoption counselors will get in touch to schedule and confirm your meet! At the kennel, an adoption counselor will introduce you and your family to the adoptable dogs, share information we know about them, and discuss our suggested ways for successfully integrating a new dog into your home. You are welcome to meet multiple dogs. If the dog you adopt is already fixed, he or she may leave with you that day - otherwise, the dog can go home after receiving the spay or neuter surgery.)

About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog once they are in the home. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.

Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DAPPL, Rabies, and Bordatella vaccines, though you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.
