Mateo's Story

Sadly, Mateo was left to die on the side of the road, in the dirt, and under the scorching sun after he was struck by a vehicle. He was taken to a vet in Mexico where they amputated his leg. The procedure was botched and Mateo was left with bone fragments in his leg, blood clots, and in extreme pain. Mateo had to undergo a second and a third amputation once he was brought to the states. Mateo has been in physical therapy and has been slowly making progress. His wound is slowly healing, however, the bigger issue is that he still isn't able to put weight on the other leg, causing him to be immobile and incontinent. We are hopeful that with time, he will gain strength in this back leg so that he can start bearing weight on it so he can learn to walk as a tri pod. In the interim, Mateo loves using his doggie wheelchair. This boy has been through so much, but that hasnt slowed him down one bit heart He still runs around and plays just like other dogs, and he absolutely loves having all of his mobility back now that he has mastered using his chair.

Mateo is available for adoption and would love to find his forever family, but his fabulous foster family is going on a lengthy trip in May and we desperately need to find this boy a temporary foster by then, or his forever home. We realize he is going to be some work so we need to find a kindred spirit, someone with an unconditional loving heart who will help this boy through his healing process
