Matcha's Story

Matcha joined Mattie's Place from a Quebec shelter when she was surrendered with her brother Espresso with her right paw missing and her left leg having some deformity, presumed from the gait she took on when she lost her right paw due to unknown trauma.

She has a date of birth of: October 18, 2025

Matcha saw our board certified orthopaedic surgeon on arrival and we put a plan in place for her to be custom fitted with prosthesis. She will need the one for her missing paw for life but with the right leg now being properly supported, we're hoping the left leg, with the support of the prosthetic, will now realign as it should.

Matcha is using both her prosthesis like a champion and also has a short indoor "slipper" to use on her leg with the missing paw.

Matcha clearly missed out on a lot of socialization in her early weeks/months. of life, so she's really learning about life outside of seclusion. Though she's in a condo closer to downtown Toronto, she would do best in a home with a backyard in quieter suburbia.

Matcha is full of so much love to give and is just a really, really sweet girl

She currently weighs in at approximately 35 pounds and I anticipate she'll land in the 70 pound weight range as an adult dog. She will have her spay completed at the cost of Mattie's Place on a non-negotiable spay contract for May 2026. I will also have a gastropexy completed at the same time, to prevent any bloat risk, common with Great Danes.

Matcha will need to see Pawsability over the course of the next year (Toronto & Stayner locations) to get her prosthesis adjusted as she grows. This will remain at the cost of Mattie's Place. When the time comes down the road for a new prosthetic, this will be at the adopters cost, but the current ones she has can be repaired and adjusted for likely years to come. We're hoping, in the coming months, she will no longer require any support for her left leg and will just have the one for the leg with the missing paw for life.

Great dog. Most deserving of a compassionate home to love her for many years to come.

FROM THE FOSTER;

Matcha may be shy and a little wary at first, but she warms up quickly to those around her. She is gentle, sweet, and full of love.

Matcha eats breakfast around 6 AM and usually needs to go potty #2 after breakfast. Her day consists of on and off playing, exploring, and nap time. Currently she is sleeping a fair amount of time as she is a growing puppy. Matcha’s dinner time is around 6 PM and again she usually needs to go potty #2 after eating. She gets snacks and treats throughout the day, and loves to nibble on her chew.

She will start to become nighttime sleepy around 8:30 PM and is directed into her crate around 10:30 at night after a quick potty. She sleeps well in her crate overnight but she will alert you through motion and quiet whines to get up once for a potty break sometime between 2 and 4 AM.

Matcha currently uses pee pads for potty #1. Potty #2 is a work in progress as she tends to want to go in privacy. A close eye on her around potty time is recommended to make sure she potties in the correct place.

She likes to play gently with her toys, nibble on her bones and treats, and when she feels comfortable with you, she will want to snuggle for pets, cuddles, and will likely fall asleep in your lap. As she is still a puppy, she can sometimes get a bit mouthy, but is very easy to redirect. She listens well and is a smart girl.

Matcha does display some separation anxiety. She may cry when you are out of sight and she may cry when she is put in her crate during the daytime. She is adjusting well to a regular schedule of being created in the mornings after breakfast, potty, exercise, and playtime.

She may grumble, bark and growl at strangers when they enter the home but with slow and careful introductions, she warms up quickly. She also grumbles and growls as a form of communication such as when she is eager to see you and when she gets good scratches behind the ear.

Macha is still very fearful of outside and has not connected the dots that that is where she should be going potty. She takes a bit of coaxing to get outside but once she starts walking, she’s curious and engaged with her environment. She will be very excited when she can tell you have turned around and its time to go home. At this time, she has had very little interaction with other dogs and currently does not show much interest.

$99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
