Mason's Story

From now until July 26th, my adoption fee is free! Thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelter event and Cathy Bissell.

If Mason could write his own dating profile, it might say: Big smile. Big heart. Big personality. Loves adventures, car rides, water, snacks, squeaky toys, and people. Occasionally forgets he is not a lap dog. Seeking someone who appreciates enthusiasm for life and doesn't mind getting a little wet.

Mason is one of those dogs who makes you smile just by looking at him. His giant grin stretches from ear to ear, and his soft, soulful eyes seem to look right into yours, as if he's trying to figure out exactly what you're thinking. This beefy, handsome boy has a heart every bit as big as his smile-and he is ready to share it with someone special.

Mason is happiest when he's doing something with his people. He loves car rides and is a wonderful hiking buddy, but if there's water involved, he's in heaven! Splashing through a creek, rolling around in a baby pool, wading in the pond, or using his big paw to turn on the splash pad-Mason loves it all. He also loves squeaky toys and chasing balls, and he has learned all kinds of tricks at the shelter. He's smart, eager to please, and highly motivated by treats, which makes teaching him new things a whole lot of fun.

Mason has enjoyed playing with other dogs and loves having canine friends. His play style is enthusiastic, rough, and rowdy, though, so he would do best with dogs who appreciate his exuberance rather than delicate souls who prefer a quieter playmate.

New things and some new people can be a little intimidating at first. Mason does best when given a little time and space to decide that everything is okay. Crouching down, avoiding direct eye contact, and tossing him a few treats is a great way to let him know you're a friend. He's a thoughtful boy, too. The first time he saw a flag waving in the breeze, he slowly backed away to a safe distance and watched carefully until he decided it wasn't scary after all.

But once Mason knows you're his person, watch out-because this big marshmallow wants to be close! After a good play session, he'll sidle right up beside you, put his enormous head in your lap, and gaze adoringly into your eyes. And yes, he occasionally believes he is a lap dog. We haven't had the heart to tell him otherwise.

Mason's exuberance and size mean he would do best in a home without young children, as his enthusiastic play could accidentally knock little ones over. But for the right family, this sweet, smart, adventurous boy could be an absolute dream. Mason is looking for someone who will embrace his zest for life, take him along on adventures, teach him new things, splash in the water with him, and love his big, goofy, beautiful heart.

Mason has so much love-and so much life-to give. He just needs someone who will give him the chance to share it.

GREAT NEWS-Mason will go home with a free training scholarship! These fun, positive reinforcement classes are available in-person or online and super easy to fit into your schedule. It's a terrific way to build a bond, learn together, and make a smooth transition into your home.

If you are interested in learning more about this pet, please call 812-988-7362 or submit an adoption application at the link below. After the application is received, an adoption counselor can reach out to you directly.

https://www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/

*All dogs will be neutered, vaccinated with age-appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested, current on parasite prevention and microchipped.
