Marvin's Story

Update ! Marvin is very loving to his foster parents , it took less than a week . This senior boy is hilarious and so playful .

NOTE #1: Marvin will be available for adoption through St. Louis Senior Dog Project once he has recovered from recent veterinary services.

NOTE #2: Unless you have previously adopted from St. Louis Senior Dog Project, we require a complete application for you to be considered as an adopter for one of our dogs.

ADOPT MARVIN GARDENS

One space away from Jail. He's still got plenty of spice left in that tiny body. And by spice, we mean he chases the cats like he's a coyote and squares up to the resident pit bull like he's auditioning to be a mastiff.

The confidence is absolutely unearned.

Especially considering he recently had 18 teeth removed, leaving him with a total of six tiny teeth to defend his honor.

We remind him daily that he's only one space away from going to Jail, but Marvin refuses to believe the rules of Monopoly (or, let's be real, any rules) apply to him.

Typical Chihuahua Resume

- Loves his foster mom with every ounce of his little heart.

- Wishes everyone else in the house would kindly disappear.

The resident dog? They coexist. They're not planning matching friendship bracelets or joining an intramural kickball league, but they could probably serve on the same HOA board without too much drama.

The cats?

Oh, Marvin has plans.

He charges across the room barking like he's about to take down a mountain lion...

...and then stops about two feet away when his tiny brain remembers the cat outweighs him, has approximately 4,000 knives attached to its feet, and is fully capable of ending his career. However, with a different cat, this behavior could get him in a lot of trouble!

Marvin doesn't bark like a dog.

He sounds like a sea lion that's deeply offended by customer service.

House Manners? Surprisingly Excellent.

Marvin is a perfect gentleman in his crate.

He quietly uses potty pads (his XXL crate provides space for an ensuite bathroom). When he's loose in the house, Marvin Gardens is fantastic about using potty pads, too.

He's officially retired from outdoor adventures.

Why?

Because Marvin is an extreme flight risk... think tiny deer with zero survival instincts.

So he's become an indoor-only dog...

...which is exactly how he likes it.

He still enjoys going for walks, preferably zipped safely inside his foster mom's pouch like the tiny kangaroo he believes he is.

Apartment? Condo? No fenced yard?

Perfect.

The Medical Fine Print

He's a senior Chihuahua, so yes ... he's got the résumé you'd expect.

- Heart murmur that is well-managed with a twice-daily medication (he happily accepts it hidden in a little wet food).

- A bit of age-related cloudiness in his eyes.

- Arthritis in his neck and back.

- None of it slows him down.

- He sailed through a two-hour surgery for his dental and neuter, like the little legend he is.

- He still struts through life convinced he's the toughest guy in every room.

And honestly...

...we're not going to be the ones to tell him otherwise.

Marvins Wishlist

- Indoor-only home.

- Ideally, no cats.... or.... confident cats who won't be traumatized by his Oscar-worthy intimidation performances.

- Calm dogs who understand Small Dog Syndrome is a medical condition (slow, supervised introductions are a must, and he should be crated whenever he's unsupervised).

- No children. While only six teeth remain, they're still functional, and Marvin finds loud, busy kid energy highly offensive. The older kids in his foster home know exactly how to respect his space, but he'd be happiest without little humans.

- Easy twice-daily heart medication and routine monitoring of his murmur.

- Most importantly, someone who truly appreciates chihuahuas.

Because Marvin isn't a polished gem.

He's more like the weird little treasure you find at a flea market that everyone else walks past...

...until one person picks him up and says,

Yep. This one's coming home with me.

If you've got a soft spot for spicy seniors, oversized personalities, and dogs who are blissfully unaware of their own limitations, Marvin Gardens has been saving all six of his teeth to smile at you.

To complete an adoption application, visit: https://www.stlsdp.org/adoption-application
