Location: Sioux Falls, SD<br/><br/>Meet Mariska! <br/><br/>Mariska has been through more than most dogs ever should, but every day she's learning that people can be kind, love can be permanent, and home is a safe place. In 2025, we rescued a litter of her puppies, but we were finally able to rescue her this year. After spending so much of her life surviving and raising babies, this sweet mama is ready to retire, relax, and let someone take care of her for a change.<br/><br/>She's embracing indoor life and making incredible progress. Mariska has discovered the joy of toys and is wonderfully goofy when she plays-leaping, hopping, tossing toys into the air, and catching them herself. She's also incredibly smart! She already knows how to ring the bells to go outside, kennel on cue, sit, leave it, and she's eager to keep learning.<br/><br/>Once Mariska trusts you, she becomes the sweetest little shadow, happily following her favorite person from room to room. A few tasty treats, gentle face scratches, and belly rubs are the fastest way to win her heart. At the end of the day, she's happiest curled up beside you, handing out cuddles and plenty of kisses.<br/><br/>Mariska also enjoys the company of other dogs. She has become friends with every foster dog she's met, but she needs slow, thoughtful introductions and usually takes a day or two to feel comfortable. Because of this, she'd do best in a home that won't expect her to enjoy busy dog parks or daycare settings.<br/><br/>Due to her past, Mariska needs a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. New people can still be frightening for her, and if she's approached too quickly, she may react out of fear. Her foster family is helping her build confidence, but she'll need someone committed to continuing that journey. For now, she would do best in a home without young children.<br/><br/>When Mariska first entered rescue, she struggled with separation anxiety, barking in her kennel, pawing at the door, or pulling nearby items inside for comfort. She has made tremendous progress, though it's possible some of those behaviors may temporarily return as she adjusts to a new home.<br/><br/>Mariska is looking for someone who will see past her fears and appreciate the incredible dog she's becoming. If you're willing to give her patience, consistency, and unconditional love, she'll reward you with unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the joy of watching a once-forgotten dog truly blossom into the companion she was always meant to be. <br/><br/>---------------<br/><br/>The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org).<br/><br/>Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs over 9 months), FIV/FeLV test (cats - one in the litter), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration).<br/><br/>Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.
