Mariela's Story
Mariela is a 1-year-old Terrier mix weighing 23 pounds. This shy little girl came from a home with several other timid dogs, and may do well with another dog who can respect her space while she adjusts. She is good with the cats in her foster home. Everything is new and overwhelming to her, but with patience and a predictable routine, she’s slowly beginning to open up.

In her foster home, Mariela has shown that she’s housetrained and sleeps quietly through the night in her own bedroom. She prefers indoor life where she can relax. She walks beautifully on leash, often trailing behind you, but sudden noises can send her into a submissive freeze, so gentle guidance is key. She’s also discovered that she likes toys—especially the cat’s—and she’ll quietly follow her person around the house, choosing to settle nearby without asking for much attention.

Mariela is fearful when approached and needs someone who understands how to let a shy dog set the pace. She does best when allowed to observe from a safe spot until she feels ready. Because of her sensitivity and need for slow, quiet interactions, she will do best in an adult-only home or one with older children who can give her space. A secure fenced yard is required to keep her safe, as she is a flight risk when startled.

With time, patience, and a gentle home where she can continue to feel safe, Mariela will blossom. She is a sweet, quiet companion who wants to be near her person, and in the right environment, she’ll continue to gain confidence and show more of her soft, loving personality.

She is incredibly easy to love—and so deserving of a family who will help her thrive at her own pace.

Her adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.

She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.

To be considered for adoption, you must first submit the application found at:
http://fs16.formsite.com/WishBoneCanineRescue/adoptionapplication/index.html

For information about this dog's breed(s), visit: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/abc.htm
