Maria’s FAQs

What is Greenville County Animal Care’s adoption process?

Step 1: Browse Our Pets Click on the dog and cat photos above to see animals currently available for adoption. Use the filter option to narrow down your search. Some of our pets live in foster homes and they are available for adoption, too! Step 2: Submit An Adoption Inquiry If you find a pet that you'd like to learn more about, click on their image. If you think they would be a good match and you'd like to visit them, you can either click on the "Apply for Adoption" button and submit an inquiry or you can visit them during our adoption walk-in hours Monday-Saturday 12pm-5pm. Submitting an inquiry does not place a hold or reservation on the pet but it does notify our team that you are interested and that you have more questions or want to set up a time to come visit. Step 3: Meet The Pet If the pet you're interested in is currently living at the shelter, we encourage you to come visit that pet as soon as possible. If you submitted an adoption inquiry, we will try to respond within 1-2 days. If the pet is in a foster home, we will connect you with the pet's foster family and you should get a response directly from the foster family within 1-2 days and they can set up a time for you to meet the pet. Step 4: Determine If It’s A Good Match When you meet the pet, our adoption counselors and foster families will tell you everything they know about the pet and help you to decide if it will be a good match for you, your pets, and your family. If it’s not a good match, that’s okay! We can help you find a better match – there are always lots of dogs and cats that need a home! All Animal Care adoptions include: * Spay or neuter * Microchip and Registration * PetHub ID tag * Vaccines * De-wormer * Flea Treatment * Heartworm Test (for dogs) * Heartworm Treatment for HW+ dogs * Feline Leukemia/FIV Test (for cats)
