Marcus's Story

Meet Marcus! He's 7 years old and SUPER sweet! At first he was very protective over his food because he came to us emaciated and starving! But now that he knows food is plentiful, he's grown comfortable with our other dogs and even allows our girl dog to push him out of his bowl! He LOVES to meet new people and he loves to play with other dogs!! His favorites are cuddling, walking and going to the dog park! He's a great alert dog and will let you know when anyone is at the door. But once they come inside, he will just smother them with cuddles and licks. He's missing lots of teeth so soft treats are a must and he's become a food snob and won't eat kibble or canned anymore. We feed Steve's Real Food For Dogs which is a raw food diet that you can order from any Mud Bay or Pet Pros. His one bad habit is ingesting objects that are not digestible! So please no cloth toys or toys with parts that can be chewed off! We think he got into this habit when he was starving because he will and has swallowed parts of toys! It's not cheap to have the vet induce vomiting! :) He loves "no hide" chews and soft treats and hard bones that he can't break pieces off and swallow. He's still working on house training but as long as he's let out enough, he'll be fine. But I wouldn't leave him unsupervised out and about unless you want to find a mess. If he could have his way, he'd sleep in your bed, probably on your chest like a cat. But he's also OK in a kennel for the night, He will whine for a short time but quiet down and go to sleep. Marcus has radar as he knows the second you wake up and he'll want out and tell you allll about it Due to his Doxie heritage, he does this little howl almost like a little hound at times. I don't know how he is with cats but I can't imagine he wouldn't be OK with them as he wants to be loved by everyone.

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
