Marcus's Story

Meet Marcus – The Gentle Boy with a Heart of Gold

If you’re looking for a guard dog, Marcus looks the part but don’t be fooled! This 6-month-old, 40-pound sweetheart is all mush and zero menace. He’s a calm, gentle soul who’d rather snuggle than stand guard. The only time he raises his voice is to protect his dinner bowl with a comically high-pitched bark that's more cute than tough!

Marcus came to us as part of a parvo litter in need of urgent help. While his littermates recovered quickly, Marcus spent a full month at the vet fighting for his life and he won that battle like a champ. During his recovery, he was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease, a condition that requires daily prednisone, monthly Zycortal injections, and routine bloodwork to keep him healthy. With the proper care, dogs with Addison’s can go on to live long, happy, and healthy lives and Marcus is well on his way!

Despite his diagnosis, Marcus is thriving. He’s full of love, enjoys playtime zoomies, and is growing fast (he’s still figuring out what to do with those big webbed “duck” feet!). He’s house-trained, great with dogs, cats, and kids of all sizes, and has a calm temperament that could make him an amazing emotional support companion.

Marcus isn’t crate-trained, but that’s because he’d rather be cuddled up next to you on the couch or in the bed. He’s up to date on all vaccinations and will be neutered and microchipped before leaving for his forever home. He’s looking for a family that understands his medical needs and has plenty of love (and snuggles) to give.

* Special needs: Addison’s Disease – daily medication and monthly injections required
* House-trained
* Good with dogs, cats, and kids
* Loves to snuggle and play
* Up to date on vaccines; will be neutered and microchipped before adoption

If you have room in your heart and home for a brave, loving boy who’s overcome so much, Marcus will reward you with endless affection and gratitude.

Fenced yard preferred for young dogs to have plenty of space to play and potty safely. If you're interested in meeting the special boy, please fill out an adoption application on our website and once approved, we will schedule a meet and greet. https://www.lancasterspca.net/online-application

Lancaster SPCA - SC's Adoption Policy
Adoption Process: We do not operate a shelter. All animals are placed in foster homes until a permanent home is found. If you are interested in meeting one of our fur-babies, please complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.LancasterSPCA.net. Once approved, we will set up a meet and greet at a mutually agreeable time. Please note that completion of our application does not guarantee adoption of a Lancaster SPCA animal. We reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason. Our rescue is an all volunteer organization. For each application we receive it takes time to review, contact all personal and veterinary references, and make a decision on approval. Depending upon volunteer availability, this can take several days to accomplish, especially when we receive a lot of applications or if we have difficulty reaching references. An approved application means that the applicant is approved to adopt a pet from our organization; it is not a guarantee that the applicant will be able to adopt the pet specified on the application. We often receive many applications at once so please don't be too disappointed if your application is approved but the pet you requested is no longer available. We strive to do our best, and always take the best interest of the pet into consideration. Adoption fees: (For adoptions beginning June 1, 2018) -Puppies - $200.00 - Includes full veterinary exam, spay/neuter, microchip, deworming and age-appropriate vaccines. -Adult Dogs / Seniors - $200.00 - Includes full veterinary exam, heartworm test, geriatric blood work (if needed), spay/neuter, deworming, rabies vaccine and adult booster, and microchip. -Cats & Kittens - $50.00 for one and $25.00 for each additional cat or kitten adopted at the same time - Includes spay/neutering, age-appropriate vaccines and FIV screening. Microchip available for additional $20. Kittens are litter box trained. Please note the following important information before completing the application: --For the animal's safety, we require that all puppies & dogs are adopted to homes that have a physical fence (no invisible fence) in place at the time of the adoption. Apartments, condos and town homes will be evaluated on a case by case basis. --A home visit will be conducted by one of our volunteers before an animal is placed in the home. --We require that animals already residing in the home be up-to-date on all shots. --We require pets be adopted to inside homes. --For cat adoptions, we have a strict NO DECLAW policy and will not adopt an animal to a home that intends to declaw. --To be considered as an adopter, you must have the knowledge and consent of your landlord (if renting), allow LSPCA to contact both vet and personal references, consent to a home visit by an LSPCA representative and be willing and able to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for an animal.
