Meet Marco
Hi, I’m Marco! I am two-years-old, 40 lbs., and as handsome as can be with my soft coat, adorable smile, and curly-q tail. I was recently DNA tested and would you believe I have a total of 17 breeds - I'm certainly a mixed bag! I was found as a stray in a very rural part of North Carolina in November 2021 where I spent 17 months in the shelter, 22-23 hours a day in a kennel – that’s basically where I grew up and all I’ve never known.
I never got to experience life on the outside. I didn’t have toys to play with or things to chew. I never learned how to be part of a pack or how to socialize…but now I am. I am in a foster home in Connecticut finally learning “how to be a dog.” Things have been an adjustment but I’m doing great!
I’m a big fan of cuddles, hugs, and pets and will curl up right next to you for some TV time or a nap. You will not be able to resist petting my soft coat. I especially love sleeping in the bed with you and will sleep all the way through the night until you wake up in the morning.
Since I spent most of my time kenneled, now I’m seeing how exciting life is and getting all my energy out! I absolutely LOVE to play and adore my toys. Tug of war? Yep. Fetch? I’m a professional. I am very smart and love exploring new things. Anything that helps my mind think is enjoyable to me, like snuffle mats, food puzzles, treat finders, etc. I’m always up for an adventure and simply adore car rides – I love seeing new sights and while we’re out and about, you’ll see just how well I walk on leash too! I like other dogs but I'm still learning how to read cues when they've had enough of my shenanigans. I'm also fine with cats.
I like people but do have a very strong sense of smell so I can be nervous and will bark or give a low growl. It’s not aggressive, I am just a bit unsure. While kids are great, I’d prefer teens and up and someone that will be committed to training me as I've never had the chance to learn before. My foster mom has already taught me to sit and I'm house and crate trained too.
Since I spent my puppy years growing up in the shelter, I never got to learn manners. I am still learning so I will occasionally do this thing called mouthing. I mouth because I get just so overstimulated with excitement and want to include you in my play. My mouthing is not aggressive, I just don't quite understand impulse control yet but I am starting training. I'm a very good boy with so much potential!
I am just so happy to be out of the shelter and start my next chapter. My adoption fee is $375 and I am vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered.
