Maple's Story

Sometimes the hardest part of leaving is deciding what matters.
She chose her dogs.
Maple and Mavis came to us because a woman left a volatile home with one priority: keeping her dogs safe. And she tried.
She did her best, but realized they deserved the kind of stability she simply couldn't provide. So she entrusted them to us, heartsick but steady, because love sometimes looks like letting go.
Maple is an adult retriever mix with the kind of sweetness that feels like a buttery stack of pancakes on a cold morning. Mavis is an adult herding mix with a spark in her eye and a deeply held belief that humans exist for snuggling. They adore each other and would make an effortless pair in your home, but they are not bonded. Each would thrive in her own family just as well as together.
A word of caution: if you kneel anywhere near these two, expect to be overtaken by snuggles. They communicate through kisses and leaning all their weight into you, as if every situation can be solved by doubling down on both. You can tell someone loved them, because they carry that love forward and hand it out freely.
They are young, healthy, and housetrained. They're a little underweight, but that's an easy fix. AAS has mastered the art of plumping dogs up!
Maple and Mavis are playful, silly, and wonderfully soft around the edges.
They're the kind of dogs who make you believe that starting over is not only possible, but sometimes the sweetest chapter of all.
Maple and Mavis are waiting at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA. You can visit any day from 9am to noon, weekends and holidays included.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
