Maple's Story

Meet Maple! This pretty girl originally came to our rescue 3 years ago when we rescued her from a Riverside Shelter. She is now 5 yrs old. It was immediately apparent that Maple did not come from ideal circumstances. She was extremely fearful of humans. When approached she would run, yelp and scream to try avoiding being touched. She had stress patching and wouldn’t eat dog food out of a bowl, however, she knows exactly what people food is. She was placed with a great foster that helped her work on trusting people. Slowly she began to gain confidence and progress into such a good girl.

Once she had some progression and easier to work with Maple was adopted. We were so happy that she had a home that could accommodate her. Through the years of regular pictures and videos she seemed to be living her best life with her family. She was going on trails with horses, camping, swimming in her pool and keeping all the kids and dogs quiet and in line at her house. She grew to be a very independent dog but seems to dislikes loud noises, people arguing or anyone touching her without her permission. Unfortunately, due to extremely unforeseen circumstances, Maple ended up at the Riverside Shelter at the end of October. We pulled her as soon as the shelter would allow us to but it was still over a week and Maple became stressed and scared again.

Maple was taken in by a new, temporary foster home to help her decompress and gain trust again. Although the shelter was hard on her she was definitely showing that she had progressed greatly throughout the years. Her current foster has allowed her to become independent, trusting and loving at times with her person. She still is not a fan of being touched without permission, being picked up or touched on her ears.

We recommend a home with children 12 or older. Due to past trauma she does not like leashes, collars and harnesses, and therefore doesn’t go on walks. She enjoys her space, her treats, her blankets and her person. Once she finds her person she will love and protect them for the rest of her life. She is currently using potty pads inside, is crate trained and enjoys the sunlight and following her person around.

If you would like to learn more about Maple to foster or adopt please email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.

Heart and Home Animal Rescue Foundation's Adoption Policy
*Please note that at the present time, we do not adopt our dogs out of state. Our adoption process is as follows: 1) Adoption application. The questionnaire is designed to help HHARF and yourself determine compatibility with the dog you are interested in and if they are the right one for you and your household. The goal is not to be invasive but to find the best possible match for each dog and their future family. All interested adopters are required to complete this form for adoption consideration. Submission of the application is not a guarantee you will be able to adopt the dog you are interested in. If we determine your application is a fit for the dog you applied for, we move forward to the next step. 2) Meet & Greet. Meeting the dog you are interested in is important to test compatibility with members of the family they will be living with. Therefore, we suggest that all family members in the household come to the meet and greet if possible. We can schedule a meet and greet with a location and time agreed upon by HHARF and the adopting family. If all goes well and both HHARF and the adopting family agree to move forward, we move on to next step. 3) Home Check. A home check is necessary to ensure the dog will be in a safe home environment. In the interior, we check to make sure there are no hazards that might cause harm. For the exterior, we look to make sure there are no avenues of escape. We can make suggestions based on the dog you are applying for. A home check can be scheduled with a date and time agreed upon by HHARF and the adopting family. 4) Adoption contract. If all goes well and both HHARF and the adopting family agree to move forward an adoption contract is completed and a tax-deductible adoption donation will be collected. 5) Once the contract is complete, you and your new family member can start your new journey together. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have. Heart and Home Animal Rescue Foundation (951) 708-0626 Heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com We are also on Facebook and Instagram
