Mandy's Story

Mandy was part of a neglect case, was confiscated from owner, and transferred to a shelter to await rescue. The shelter shaved her coat as she was terribly matted. Mandy arrived at her foster home a few months ago in poor shape and severely underweight. She has made quite a transformation!

4-5 year old Mandy arrived at her foster home shy and insecure and afraid to go outside for fear of not being able to come back in- as she was left outside and neglected by her prior owners. Mandy has since become deeply loyal to her foster family, which includes the humans as well as the other dogs in the home. She loves a good cuddle and will gently and persistently ask for them. Mandy absolutely adores the young cats in the foster household and will often be seen grooming them and allowing them to groom her. She has become a big couch potato and will choose to sleep whenever she gets the chance! However she also loves to be the neighborhood watch from the front door- if someone is nearby, she will let you know!Food motivated, if the humans leave something irresistible on the counter, Mandy has been known to swipe it. And she loves a good car ride, but may need a boost to get in now that she weighs 100 plus lbs. Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri's Adoption Policy
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence and children in the home must be 12 or older. In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history. All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 1 year and older: $400 Puppies under 1 year: $450 All of our rescued Pyrenees are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs 1 year and older), microchipped, up-to-date on immunizations, and up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety. From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or video chat if that isn't an option. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you. Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
