WEIGHT: About 7.5 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats

Introducing Mandy. Mandy has a beautiful tan coat, and is super adorable. Her foster Mom says she is very sweet and a “perfect foster” (and she is a veteran with our group that has had many fosters!)

In late October, we received a call asking if we would be willing to help with a hoarding situation where there were over 30 Chihuahuas. One was pregnant and there were many others in need. We immediately drove 1 1/2 hours south of Dallas and took several dogs into our program. We named the pregnant Chihuahua Mandy, and a few short days later on Oct 30th, she had puppies! We are thrilled to say that the Mandy and her three puppies have thrived. Mandy has been a great Mama. She was so gentle with her puppies. They are weaned now and growing. Mandy has now been vetted and is ready for her forever home.

Mandy is great with the other dogs in her foster home. She fit right into the pack and gets along well with all of them. She recently has begun playing and running with them. And she will curl up in the same bed with them to take naps. She has a gentle personality that fits in with the other dogs (she does not have to be the alpha). Mandy has recently begun playing with toys. She also loves exploring the back yard and has fun chasing the squirrels.

Mandy adores her humans. She is a little shy when she first meets you, but that is to be expected since she has been through so much in her young life. Once she knows she is safe, she is your velcro dog! She loves snuggling. In the evening, she will crawl up on your lap and watch TV with you. She gets so comfortable that she often falls asleep in your lap. It melts our hearts! Mandy loves burrowing under blankets. If you cannot find her, just call her name and your blankets will likely start wiggling like a ghost until she pops her head up!

Mandy is super smart. She has learned commands such as “sit” and “go lay down”. She is completely potty trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. Note that she is not a huge fan of going potty in the rain (but who is – LOL). Mandy is also not a fan of crates – she just won’t settle down. She prefers to sleep in bed with her human, or in a doggy bed. We currently does not do well on a leash. We are working on this, but for now she would not be apartment appropriate for this reason.

Mandy is about 2 years old and weighs a perfect 7.5 pounds. She has very long legs and is athletic (she can jump over baby gates). Mandy enjoys routines and organization. She is very laid back and relaxed. Her ideal home would be a laid back atmosphere, with a family who spent a great deal of time at home. A retired or work at home family would be perfect! Mandy does not bark a lot, but will alert if she hears noises in the yard. Mandy loves people of all ages but would do best in a home with older, mature children. We believe Mandy would do well as an only dog or would also enjoy another small dog as a playmate.

Mandy is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Mandy is spayed, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
