Mama Coco's Story

Coco, aka Mama Coco, is an almost 6-year-old, 18-pound brown female looking for her forever home. She came to us as an owner surrender after living on a couple of different farms. Mama Coco has been in a foster care for awhile while we address medical issues, but she's now looking for her very own special family. She needs a family without other female dogs, and who is able to manage her urinary issues. Children age 5+ are fine as she loves her people, and if you'll leash walk her a fenced yard is not required!
Mama Coco LOVES going on walks! She had luxating patella surgery on her right knee and recovered great, so she now walks very well. She walks wonderfully on a leash and doesn’t pull. She is non-reactive when other dogs approach her. Mama Coco loves to be petted by every human she meets, too. Her urinary issues are more complicated, and so she wears a diaper in the house. She is potty-trained and crate-trained and will ask to go outside, but she leaks urine. This is very easy to manage with ladies super pads and washable diapers. When her humans are home, and she gets let out frequently, her diaper stays fairly dry. While she is kenneled and they are at work, it is wetter. Mama Coco is used to getting a diaper put on and will stand nicely and let you do it. She takes twice-daily incontinence medicine and eats a special urinary diet from the veterinarian; costs will vary by vet but each is about $30/month at her current vet.
Mama Coco's incontinence has been assessed by the UW-Madison vet school, and it is because she was born with an abnormal urinary tract. It is an unusual condition and they are still working on treatment options. We will pass all details along to an adopter, but because her incontinence can be managed with diapers and additional treatment success is uncertain, those decisions and treatments will be up to her forever family. Please email wbtradoption@gmail.com, and we would be happy to share more details about her condition.
Alllllll of this doesn’t slow Mama Coco down! She LOVES any kind of ball- wants to play fetch all the time! She likes practicing yoga and has perfected the upward-facing dog, as
you can see in the pictures. She likes to bask in the sun and snuggle with her humans. She LOVES her humans! She just wants to be with you all the time, and anytime you sit
on the couch, she’s right there ready to snuggle. Mama Coco also takes treats very gently and has a soft mouth. She has the cutest little spot on the top of her head- it’s her kiss spot! She would be good with kids 5+ years old, teenagers, men, women, and probably a scarecrow if it would cuddle with her!
Mama Coco is very selective about her doggie friends. She would do best as an only dog, preferably, or with a very submissive small male. She DOES NOT get along with
other female dogs in her house. She is fine with them when she is on a leash, but she DOES NOT want to share her house with them. NO kitty friends for Mama Coco, as she has a very high prey drive and is a danger to cats. She would like a fenced-in yard to lie around in, but she will be ok on a tie-out, too.
Mama Coco is a wonderful little dog that deserves her own family! She will make a nice companion to anyone who wants someone to lie next to them, give her hugs and kisses, and take her for walks. She is up to date on vaccines, spayed, had a dental, and is ready for her new home! She is being fostered in the Milwaukee area. Her adoption fee will be $300, in consideration of her special needs. Please see our website at www.wisconsinbostonterrierrescue.com/adopt for more information on the adoption process and a link to the application form, and email wbtradoption@gmail.com with any questions.
