Mama Bear's Story

Meet Mama Bear!

Mama Bear is a beautiful and gentle girl who is finally ready for a family of her very own! With her gorgeous Rottweiler-like looks and sweet, soulful eyes, Mama Bear is one special girl. She is a “Rez Dog,” so we aren't completely sure what breeds truly make up her unique mix, but whatever she may be, we know she is 100% deserving of a loving forever home. Mama Bear came to us from our friends at Underdog Rescue in Moab along with her four adorable, rollie-pollie puppies. She was a wonderful mama, but all four of her little bears have now found their very own forever homes, and we think it’s Mama’s turn to be someone’s baby!

We suspect Mama Bear had a difficult life before she was rescued, and she is still learning that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. She is a shy girl who can be unsure of new people, places, and situations, and she needs a little time to warm up before she feels comfortable. When we first met her, Mama Bear didn't know how to walk on a leash at all, but she has made wonderful progress and continues to gain confidence every day. Her new family will need to be patient and gentle as they help her learn about the big wide world and discover just how much fun being a beloved family dog can be.

Mama Bear is also still working on her potty training. We believe she may have spent all of her previous life living outside, so she is learning the ins and outs of being an indoor dog and understanding when and where it is appropriate to go potty. She may need a little more patience, time, training, and encouragement than some other 2 year old dogs, but we truly believe all of that effort will be worth it. Mama Bear has a heart of gold, and once she trusts you, she is ready to repay your kindness with all the love, affection, and kisses a good girl can give.

Mama Bear has done well meeting some friendly dogs, while preferring to keep a little more distance from others. Since she can be nervous with new canine friends, she will need slow, proper introductions with any potential doggy siblings or playmates to make sure everyone feels comfortable and it is a good match. We are still getting to know Mama Bear when it comes to cats and will share more as we learn about her.

We think Mama Bear may do best in a calm home with older kids who can respect her boundaries and give her the time and space she needs to come out of her shell at her own pace. She doesn't need a perfect home, she just needs a patient one and a family who is willing to celebrate the little victories, gently encourage her when something feels scary, and show her that she is finally safe and loved.

Mama Bear did a fantastic job raising her babies, but now it's her turn to be someone's baby. She has spent so much of her life taking care of others, and she deserves the chance to discover how wonderful it feels to have a family taking care of her. If you have room in your heart for a sweet, shy girl who is ready to learn, grow, and love with her whole heart, Mama Bear may be the special girl you've been waiting for!
