Mally's Story

Mally is a medium-sized three-year-old white and black Australian Cattle Dog mix who had been at the shelter since 8/25/22 and was slated for euthanasia after her puppies were adopted. We found her a foster home through PetFinder. She is friendly, sweet and calm with people and other dogs and is housebroken.

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services to find homes for high risk dogs. The shelter has around 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to under-staffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County.

805-492-CAPS (2277)
caps@caps-web.org

CAPS can arrange transportation if you are on the West Coast or in an adjacent state and help you find transportation if you are in a state outside of this area.
