12/10/24 - We are so surprised 😮 that Maleficent the model has not been scooped up yet! <br/>At 8 yrs young and 8 lbs, Mal makes the perfect travel companion! After adjusting to her foster family she became the perfect pup ❤️. It's hard to imagine that she had been returned to the shelter twice for bad behavior 😮🥺. Now, she does great meeting new people, and often goes out with her foster crew for outings. <br/>Maleficent craves adventure and glamour 😍 💍💄. She is looking for a family who will treat her like one of their own. Someone to take her out of the house, to a brunch, or maybe some cute boutiques, ohhh or a market! Maleficent had been adopted and returned to the shelter 2 times for having a bad attitude. When she came to the shelter this last time, she was scared and nippy, but after a couple of weeks she had settled in and was being a sweet girl!<br/>We were able to bring Maleficent into ACR, and into a foster home. Her foster fam had experience with little feisty chis, and was prepared to welcome the lil piranha. When she was picked up, she was scared and nervous, but it quickly became clear that Maleficent isn’t a crazy monster! Her foster mom says she is more like a jealous possessive gf 😂❤️<br/>Maleficent does like her personal space, quiet time, cuddles & attention. She also does well with her foster siblings, but she will growl and show some teeth if she needs space from them. Maleficent LOVES blankets!!!!! Don’t you dare take it away from her 🤣. She loves to sleep, does well in the car, and even does well out and about on adventures. At night she sleeps in a crate with no issues. Maleficent is really a sweet girl, but is not a morning dog. Fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt<br/><br/><br/>10/16/24 New Intake - 8 yrs / 8 lbs<br/><br/>Shelter notes:<br/>Initial outreach:<br/>"The shelter has just received an owner surrender for a spicy Chihuahua named Baby. Originally brought to us in May as a stray, Baby has since been adopted and returned twice due to her defensive behavior towards strangers and inability to thrive in new environments.<br/>Baby is approximately 8 years and 4 months old, 8.2 lbs, spayed, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. <br/>Baby’s owner surrender forms don’t provide much insight. Her first owner was new to dog ownership, and despite our advice to give Baby plenty of time to acclimate, she began pushing her boundaries as soon as she finalized the adoption. Her second family kept her for four months before bringing her back. When she returned, Baby was terrified, clinging to their legs and trying to hide. Crating her was a challenge, but with patience, we eventually got her settled. She primarily hides in the hardtop carrier we put in her large kennel, terrified by the other dogs' barking and overstimulated by the environment. For full disclosure, we were told that one of her veterinarians refused to see her unless she was sedated. <br/>Baby can be lovely once she warms up to people and her environment; according to her second owner, she loves to snuggle with her people. She needs some confidence-boosting and socialization, but given the proper training, I strongly believe that she could flourish. <br/>I know it's a big ask, but any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. With her kennel behavior, Baby is at very high risk of euthanasia and as of right now, she is strictly rescue-only through our facility."<br/>Follow up outreach:<br/>"Very shortly after coming back to our facility, she opened up again! She was constantly waiting at the front of her kennel, waiting for someone to hang out with her and give her some snacks! At this point, our team decided that she had calmed down enough to be regularly interacted with! Since then, she's gone on daily walks, hangs out with our Dog Program Manager and her dogs in the offices (even unmonitored at times, though someone is always close just in case), regularly gets the zoomies, and just loves to love! Mama still has her moments and is a little shy when meeting new people, but overall, she's made significant progress! I don't know if you guys would still want to send her to the behavioral foster just in case, but I thought I'd give you a little more insight into the behaviors we've seen at the shelter. <br/>She also knows how to sit and when you tell her to kennel, she will! Even with the door open, she stays there until whoever leaves the kennel fully exits before moving around again. We also haven't seen any signs of food aggression, with some of our staff even being able to mess around with her food/food bowl while she's eating."<br/>She would need a foster with a calm environment and can handle piranha tendencies and help work with her socialization.
