Mako's Story

Meet Mako! At 12 years old, this 17-pound little guy should have been spending his days stretched out somewhere comfortable, soaking up all the love and attention and waiting for someone to bring him a snack. Instead, he spent the last six years living outside in a yard.

His previous owner had given him to their parents, and eventually they could no longer care for him either. By the time Mako arrived at Pug Nation, it was pretty obvious that he hadn't been getting the care he needed for a long time. He was very skinny, covered in fleas, dealing with a severe skin infection, and had Giardia on top of everything else. It was a lot for a senior dog! But Mako has surprised us with just how resilient he is.

His skin has healed, the Giardia is gone, and he's putting on weight and feeling better. And despite everything, he hasn't turned into a bitter or fearful dog. Quite the opposite, Mako is trusting, gentle, and always happy when someone gives him attention.

He likes being fussed over and being near people, and loves having someone tell him he's a good boy! Mako also does well with other dogs, especially the ones who understand that 12-year-old boys aren't necessarily interested in turning every moment into a wrestling match. He's mellow and easygoing and perfectly content to hang out and take life at a slower pace.

What Mako needs now is pretty simple:
1. He needs to be inside!
2. He needs a soft bed and cozy blankets.
3. He needs a warm lap.
4. He needs to wake up every morning knowing he's safe and loved.

If you've got a quiet home, a soft spot for seniors, and room for a sweet little guy who would love nothing more than to be doted on, Mako may be exactly who you've been looking for. Please inquire today!
