Maisy & Millie's Story

****PLEASE NOTE; Maisy and Millie are a BONDED PAIR. They are bonded to each other and must be adopted together.****

Maisy and Millie are a bonded pair of sweet, 4-year-old girls believed to be Maltipoos (Maltese/Poodle mixes). While we don’t DNA test our rescue dogs, this is an educated guess based on their appearance and size. Maisy is 8 lbs and Millie is 9 lbs.

These two girls were found living on the streets of Houston before ending up in a large, overcrowded, and very scary shelter. When they arrived, both were covered in painful mats, had overgrown nails, and were understandably unsure and frightened by the shelter environment. Once rescued, their painful mats were carefully shaved away so they could finally feel comfortable and start to relax, and they’ve been feeling so much better ever since.

Both girls are sweet, gentle souls who simply need time and patience to feel safe. They are so so sweet, just so unsure with everything going on right now. Maisy and Millie have arrived to Colorado and are in a foster home decompressing and learning that the world isn't such a scary thing.

From Maisy & Millie's foster:
* * * *
"These precious girls will need some tlc, patience, & understanding. Maisy is the outgoing & affectionate one. Millie is still afraid and retreats to their crate when we try to interact with her. I can see them both getting more and more confident each day, though!! They are not nippy scared at all, and will let me totally grab them, pick them up, etc. they are just so scared. Aside from being scared, they’ve been great house guests. They’ve never tried to bite or nip. They’ve never tried to escape the puppy pen, which they could easily do. And they know to potty on the potty pads.

I made them a safe place in my living room with a play pen with their crate and beds inside, food and water bowls, and puppy pads to potty on. Since they are so scared, we have not tried taking them out to the yard yet, as I don't want to risk them trying to escape or not following me back inside. But they use puppy pads for now like a pro!

Now we are a few days in, and Millie (the more shy one) has started giving me kisses! She will still freeze if I touch her, but she is coming around to me on her terms really well!!! Maisy is a total love bug after a few days.

When we’ve left the room or the house, they always seem happy to see us when we come back. When i go out the back door, they will both sit on the back of the sofa to watch for me. And when i come back in Maisy gives the best full-body wiggles! Maisy is like the protector and will often follow Millie when she is nervous to provide comfort. Millie will hide behind Maisy when she is scared. It's quite freaking adorable. They love each other.

They play with toys sometimes, and get the occasional zoomies.

You just need to be prepared for a slow start with dogs like these girls, but just trust the process and give them the safe space that they so deserve!"
* * * *

Why adopting two can actually be easier than one:
Bonded pairs like Maisy and Millie help regulate each other’s emotions. They provide comfort, confidence, and familiarity during transitions, which can actually make the adjustment into a new home smoother. They’re never truly alone, learn routines together, and often experience less anxiety because they have their built-in best friend by their side.

Maisy and Millie will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are great choices for hair care and longevity) to keep their coats cottony-soft, matte-free and shining with good health.

We would love to see Maisy and Millie in a home with a individual, couple, or active retirees who have the time and heart for a loyal and loving companion. We'd hate to see them left alone all day while their family works full-time outside of the home. A family that works from a home-based office is a great choice for these sweet dogs.

Farfel's Rescue would like to see Maisy and MIllie in a home where they'll get consistent mental stimulation, exercise and tons of loving hugs. A positive reinforcement / force free training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for these young dogs, whose self-esteems will fly high while they master their skills. Farfel's feels so strongly about a training opportunity for all dogs that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement/force free trainers in your area.

Maisy and Millie are both up to date on their vetting and vaccines, and are both spayed and healthy.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.

Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

Applications are currently being accepted for Maisy and Millie. If interested in this gorgeous pair, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
