Mailman's Story

Behavior Assessment – Mailman

Mailman demonstrated mixed to positive responses throughout the assessment. He can pull strongly on leash and may jump up and mount people when anxious or over-aroused, with enough intensity to potentially overwhelm small children or frail adults; therefore, placement with them is not recommended. He would benefit from an experienced adopter or rescue prepared to provide consistent training, socialization, and desensitization. Mailman otherwise appeared friendly with people and possibly tolerant of other dogs, though his mounting behavior during dog-to-dog interaction suggests he may struggle in close living situations with another dog. Further evaluation is recommended to better assess his sociability. Overall, Mailman may be a suitable candidate for adoption with appropriate structure and guidance.

Once approved, a representative from the shelter will contact the applicant and set up a meeting with the animal. All other animals in the household and family members must participate in a “meet and greet” with the desired animal in order to confirm suitability.
