Maile - NJ's Story

Name: Maile
Breed: Cattle Dog Mix
Age/Sex: ~4.5 yrs old F(s)
Weight: 72# and going down!
Medical: possible arthritis in back left leg
Cat Friendly: No
Dog Friendly: No
Kid Friendly: No
Crate Trained: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Location: New Jersey
Bio: The name "Maile" is Hawaiian. People from Jersey pronounce it "Miley". She had a rough start, being bought from a pet store and then kept in a bedroom. At around 2 yrs old she landed herself in the shelter circulation... for 2 1/2 years. She gained a bit of weight in the shelter. Maile has lost 11+ lbs since she's been in a home on the correct diet.

Maile has been in a foster home for almost 3 months now, and is doing absolutely fabulous! She's currently on Tase of the Wild Ancient Grains with Salmon, with some pure pumpkin mixed in. She also gets a hip & joint supplement as she may have arthritis in her back left leg.

Maile knows sit, stay, paw, other paw, high five, down, spin, get it, and place. She is currently attending basic training classes at J&R Kennel in Lakehurst where she's learning something new every week!

She does have a very high prayer drive, but listens to and adores her handler. She is always ready for work, and loves to learn new things!

Although she has the cattle dog energy, she also loves to just lay around the house. She is obsessed with toys, and very good with them! She is non-destructive in and of the home, and goes right in her crate when she sees you getting ready to leave. She is a little nervous if there's a bad storm coming, but she's fine with fireworks and any other loud noises.

I'm sure she would love to sleep with her human at night, but I don't think she ever has. Currently, her bedtime is 10 PM and she goes right in her crate. I think she would love to go swimming, but she is deathly afraid of towels, so drying her off would be a hurdle!

Maile would do great in a home with breed experience, no other pets, no kids, and preferably women only. She needs someone who understands her, someone who will have her meet company outside with treats, or just put her away when company comes over. She is also sensitive to touch in some spots, and needs someone who will go very slow with her, and continue training her with the basket muzzle. She has a lot of little quirks, half of which is because she was not probably socialized, and the other half is just because she's a cattle dog!

If you are interested in adopting, please click at the link below:
CRNE Adoption Application:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rjvYvkyGRug-gnCPcHFB49ksrZlQNlYQddGnkoVvNNA/viewform?fbclid=IwAR1Z3LWcB1HW2pncs-N64t1xdlD6Fm9P137xk6MErsLOE4ObXQ9erCAk-nM&edit_requested=true

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit.
