Magnolia 's Story

Magnolia is a sweet 2-year-old, 20 lb Spaniel mix rescued from Taft, CA.

She has endured a difficult journey. After her owner moved away, Magnolia was left behind at an apartment complex, where she survived for nearly a year thanks to kind neighbors who fed her. Every morning at 5:00 a.m., she would make her way to a nearby gas station, Fastlane, where she knew she could count on a meal. Despite being overlooked for so long, she remained gentle and hopeful.
A Good Samaritan heard her story and stepped in, bringing her to safety and connecting with a local rescuer we work with.

When Magnolia was found, she was extremely filthy, her coat completely black, and she was pregnant. She was cleaned up and brought to Shelter Hope, where we placed her into foster care. In a safe and loving environment, Magnolia gave birth to five puppies and proved to be a devoted and nurturing mama.

Now that her puppies are old enough to be on their own, Magnolia is finally ready for a forever home of her own.

She is shy at first and may take a little time to feel comfortable, but once she warms up, she is incredibly affectionate and loving. She gets along well with other dogs and has a gentle, sweet nature. She loves treats too! As she continues adjusting to a new environment without her babies and learns to trust our staff, we are still getting to know her personality—but she has already shown how resilient and kind-hearted she is.

Magnolia has been through so much and deserves a home where she will never be left behind again. If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion and are willing to give her the patience she needs to blossom, Magnolia is your gal!

---

Looking to Adopt?

Step 1) Apply Online
Submit a rescue questionnaire! Shelter Hope Pet Shop's Adoption Policy
Shelter Hope is operating by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Dogs are only brought into the shop if an application to meet the dog is approved and an appointment is made. More about our process: STEP 1: APPLICATION If you're interested in adopting, please fill out a rescue questionnaire. Please be thorough in your answers. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them. Be ready to adopt, as adoptions can happen quickly. Only apply for dogs that every family member agrees on, and wait to submit your application until after your vacation. STEP 2: PHONE INTERVIEW If your application is approved, our rescue counselor will contact you for a phone interview. Please be patient, as this process may take several days. Due to the high volume of applications, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we often interview multiple candidates before selecting the best match and scheduling an adoption appointment. STEP 3: ADOPTION APPOINTMENT The appointment is a meet-and-greet at our shop at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks. If you choose to adopt, the process is completed with an adoption fee and a signed contract. Adoptions include: - 10% off training at Zoom Room Thousand Oaks - A free day at doggy daycare at Barks N' Rec - A free grooming at Indiana Bones - A free check-up with Slaton Veterinary Hospital - A free 30 minute visit from Valley Pet Sitting - A free collar, tag, harness & leash As well as all the vaccines they've had thus far, the microchip, and the spay/neuter. And most importantly, the lasting reward of saving a life and welcoming a new member into your family!
