Maggie AZ's Story

Maggie is ready for her Forever Home!

My name is Maggie & I'm approximately 1 year and 5 months old. and fostered in Payson AZ

I was rescued from a backyard breeder/hoarding situation in Wilcox Arizona. I'm a bit timid when it comes to loud noises still, work in progress. I'm a very active young girl who loves to run & play mostly. I do have a loving side to me as well & will snuggle in your arms, ask for belly rubs & love on you when I'm feeling lonely.

I get along with other dogs, but cats not so much. You see, I love to run & play .... I play hard, but I'm not mean, just active. My "foster brother" (another Aussie) takes me down every time, but I keep going back for more. I am mouthy in that I like to bite his legs & try to get him to play with me, but sometimes he just runs away, because he's had enough. I love all other animals & assume they love me as well, so I'll just keep annoying them until they either blow me off, or play with me.

My foster Mom tells me to stop, but sometimes I just keep on, because after all, I just want to play! My foster mom says it's probably due to maturity, because actually I used to be worse & continually annoy the other dogs until I got a reaction from them; either good or bad, I didn't care! So I've calmed down a bit, but need consistent reminders to respect the other dogs space, whatever that means. I know basic commands & perform them well because I love to learn. But really I just like to play. Even when I try to get my foster mom to play with me I can get demanding & mouthy .... my foster mom ceases that behavior right away, by using the "sit" command & I will listen, otherwise I don't get to play at all.

I've come a long way, my foster mom says, but I use my mouth as a comfort/communication tool. Most dogs lick if they're happy & content, I put my mouth around your arm, not to hurt you, but to tell you I like the belly rubs. My foster mom was confused by this & thought I was being mean at first, but it's just my way. I had to learn how to do it gently. That's what she means by me being "mouthy".

SO I should not be around young children or other geriatric pets in the home. Even teens that may want to play tug of war with me, I'll need to be reminded to play gently, because I play hard & my focus isn't that great when I'm in the throws of playing. Please understand, that I don't have a mean bone in my body, I'm just a little different. I'm looking for an active family who is familiar with my breed & able to keep me in check. I hope that person is you!

If you think Maggie is the gal for you, please submit our adoption application.

Here is the link to the application:

https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application

There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer him to his new furever family.
