Maggie's Story

Hi there! My name's Maggie, and I'm a 56-pound Coonhound mix with a heart as big as my floppy ears!

I'm a silly, goofy girl who just can't help but get excited about life-everything is just so much fun! I love to wrestle, zoom around, and give playful paw taps when I'm feeling extra frisky. Toys are my absolute favorite; once I get going,

I can't resist a good case of the zoomies! I'm also a big fan of attention-especially when it comes to those glorious butt and side scratches. I'm a very social gal who loves to be part of whatever's happening, but I also have my independent streak.

When my nose hits the ground, the world fades away while I follow all the wonderful scents out there. Because I'm such a curious and intelligent hound, I'll need an active home that understands my breed and keeps me busy, both physically and mentally.

I'm too loud for the apartment life so wide open home that doesn't mind me talking every now and again would suit me best! I thrive when I have a "job" to do-especially one that lets me use my incredible nose!

I do have a very strong prey drive, so I'll need a home with no small animals; once I spot a critter, I'm laser-focused and nothing can break my concentration. But if you're looking for a fun, energetic companion to join you on hikes, camping trips, or outdoor adventures, I might just be your perfect partner.

I'm smart, food-motivated, and have pretty good manners (even if I can be a bit stubborn at times). Once I've gotten my fill of sniffing, I'll happily follow you around just to see what you're up to. Life's an adventure, and I'm ready to share it with someone who loves a spirited, loving hound like me!

Humane Society of The Black Hills's Adoption Policy
The adoption process may take up to one hour to complete but we’ll keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
