Maggie's Story

Maggie and her puppy, Dug, didn't come to us under easy circumstances. The two were found living in and around an abandoned trailer, doing their best to survive on their own. It took several days of a kind-hearted individual showing up, offering food, and slowly earning their trust before they could be safely brought in. Despite their rough start, it quickly became clear-both Maggie and Dug have incredibly loving hearts.

Maggie, on her own, tells a quieter, more uncertain story. We estimate her to be around 4-5 years old, and while we may never know exactly what she's been through, it's clear the world is a very new and overwhelming place for her. She is incredibly sweet at her core, but very timid and unsure. Simple things-like walking on a leash or being handled-are still foreign to her. If we had to guess, Maggie likely spent most, if not all, of her life confined to that abandoned space.

But even with her fear, her gentle nature shines through. Maggie wants to trust-she just doesn't know how yet. She will need a patient, understanding adopter who is willing to move at her pace, celebrate the small victories, and give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. Watching Maggie come out of her shell will be a slow process, but also an incredibly rewarding one for the right person.

Maggie and Dug do not necessarily need to be adopted together, but they both deserve homes that will meet them where they are-whether that's guiding a young puppy through life's lessons or helping a shy adult dog discover what it means to feel safe and loved.

Two very different journeys, but both leading to the same hope: a forever home.
