Maddy's Story
Meet Maddy, a beautiful 13-year-old Alaskan Malamute who may be a senior, but she still has plenty of love to give! Maddy is a sweet girl who absolutely loves people and enjoys being near her humans. She is happiest spending her quiet time relaxing nearby, soaking up the comfort of having someone she loves close by.

Maddy is blind in one eye and is most likely deaf, so her foster family has learned that she can sometimes get spooked when someone approaches without her realizing they are there. If surprised, she may bark, but this is simply her way of reacting to being startled. Because of her age, Maddy also has arthritis in her hips, so her forever family should be prepared to provide joint support to help keep her comfortable and mobile.

Upon a recent dental, xrays show changes resembling resportive changes that have affected the periodontal ligament - potentially from chewing. It is recommended to do annual dental cleanings and keep an eye on her mouth as she continues to age.

Maddy does well with both dogs and cats. She can occasionally appoint herself as the "play police" when another dog gets a little too energetic, barking at them as if to say, "That's enough of that!" She would likely do best with dogs who understand her desire for a calmer lifestyle and don't constantly try to convince her it's time to party.

Because of her arthritis, Maddy needs a ramp to safely get into a vehicle. She does not enjoy being lifted, and her sides can be sensitive to touch, sometimes causing her to yelp. Her future family will need to respect her boundaries and allow her to move and be handled at her own pace.

Maddy may be a senior girl, but she has so much love left to give. She is looking for a patient and understanding family who will appreciate the slower pace of life, give her a comfortable place to rest, and let her enjoy simply being close to the people she loves. If you're looking for a gentle companion who would rather peacefully lounge beside you than be the center of attention, Maddy may be the perfect girl to add to your family.

Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
