Mabel's Story

Mabel was adopted into a loving home, and she's a wonderful dog, but it wasn't the right match, so she's back with us. Those big brown eyes, droopy jowls, and long silky ears...what a beauty. This lovely Bloodhound girl is said to be 4 years old and she weighs 67 pounds. She ended up in a crowded shelter after her person found himself in trouble. When he didn't come back for her, she made her way to Dogwood via rescue angels, including volunteer pilots and the most beautiful airplane.

Mabel was kind of a mess when she arrived and had eye and ear infections. We sent her for spay and for entropian surgery to fix her painful eyes and treated her ears. Entropian is when the lashes turn inward and rub on the eyeball causing chronic pain, infection and eventually vision loss. She is now feeling so much better.

Mabel passed her cat scan passed with flying colors with our confident cats, but was overstimulated by the frisky kitten in her adoptive home. Note: all cat/dog introductions are different and dogs can be good with one cat and not another, and most will chase a cat that runs. But Mabel was comfortable and respectful meeting a confident cat. Mabel appears to have had many puppies in her old life. Bloodhounds usually have very sweet temperaments and Mabel is a doll. They are known for baying and following their noses, but they make wonderful companions in the right home. So far, Mabel is pretty quiet. She's been wonderful with people and with male and female dogs of all sizes in our care. She has shown excitement on leash walks with her adopter. She's a good traveler and was good on her flight here and in the car. She's house trained and sleeps quietly in her cozy crate at night.

Applications at:

http://dogwoodanimalrescue.org/adoption-application-dogs/

You can follow us on social media at:

https://.www.instagram.com/dogwoodanimalrescue/
https://.www.facebook.com/.DogwoodAnimalRescue/

Making a difference, one animal at a time.
