Lyra's Story

If you're looking for an easy dog to love, Lyra is your girl. At 55 pounds and 8 years old, this youthful senior has a gentle heart and an old soul. All that puppy chaos is behind her, but she's still spry enough for walks and adventures.<br/><br/>On Christmas Day 2025, Lyra was rescued from a hoarding situation after their caretaker was hospitalized and never returned home. Not all made it. Some were purebreds taken in by breed rescues. Lyra spent the next seven months watching every other dog find a home while she waited at the shelter for someone to choose her. Now, it's finally her turn.<br/><br/>Lyra has flourished in foster care. We have discovered what a sweet and happy-go-lucky girl she is. Lyra gets the silliest zoomies when the wind picks up, happily hops in the car for any adventure, and does a little happy dance at the sight of her leash. Lyra LOVES making new friends. She is a perfect medium energy, looking forward to her daily walks and then a good nap at your feet.<br/><br/>Lyra is currently fostered with other dogs.. She prefers a medium/large male canine companion who matches her easygoing energy and appreciates a good nap after a romp in the yard. No cats or small critters for this girl.<br/><br/>Lyra's perfect home is a single family home with a fenced yard, with pet oarents who have flexibke schedules, or active retirees who love having their dog by their side and are home more than not.<br/><br/>Lyra is spayed and fully vetted, including complete senior blood panels. Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescued dog from Big Dog Rescue Project! Please submit an adoption application at bigdogrescueproject.org/adopt to begin the process of adding a new best friend to your family. Applications will be pre-screened and references checked. Most dogs are fostered in Texas until matches are made. Transport is scheduled and paid for by Big Dog Rescue Project to Washington, Oregon, and New Jersey. Let us help you find your next Big Dog! There are always new dogs coming to our attention, so please feel free to contact us if you do not see your perfect match here today.  Because we do not have a kennel facility all dogs are either fostered, or spend time in a doggie daycare facility in Plano TX  interacting with our volunteers before making their way to Washington State.
