Lyla's Story

Hello, my name is Lyla! I am a sweet, middle aged lady. I live in a home with other cats and dogs and get along with everybody. I have been in foster care for quite a while, getting all of my medical needs addressed. The most time consuming one was due to a tail infection from an injury prior to entering foster care. I finally have the all clear, but I should warn you I only have a partial tail. I am still cute as a button though!

I have been living in a quiet household with my foster mom, though we do get visitors. I am shy when meeting new people, but I do love attention and affection. I have not lived with young children, though I am ok to visit with them. But I would do better in a household with older children or no kids. I am food motivated, as many hounds are, and will snatch things if they are left in my reach. I am happy to go for walks and love car rides, but understandably nervous at the vet as I have been there frequently.

I was only somewhat housebroken when I got to my foster home, but I am doing much better as long as I can go out several times a day, as well as right before bed and as soon as I get up in the morning. My previous home reported some separation anxiety, and while my foster mom does work, she tends to be gone only a few hours at a time. As this is working for me, it seems best that my future family have members that are retired, work from home, or have different shifts so there is someone home frequently.

I am able to get on lower furniture and can make myself comfy on the couch, but I need help with taller furniture. Foster mom helps me into bed with her at night and I tend to wait for her to help me down in the morning as well, which is also beneficial in preventing accidents as I am not one to wet the bed!

Overall, I am a sweet as can be, mellow companion, that is looking for a quiet lifestyle with a forever family. To find out if that might be you, please fill out the adoption application under the "Adoption" heading on our website www.bassetbuddiesrescue.org and while you wait for a volunteer to be in touch, you can read more about this organization, adoption fees, and what to expect next.
