Luther's Story

Meet Luther aka Lubaby aka Lububu , a 4 year old Doberman boy who is the quintessential Velcro dog that Dobermans are known to be. He plays hard but loves even harder, he hasn’t met a stranger and wants everyone to adore him the way that we do.

Luther came to us 3 weeks ago emaciated, covered in fecal matter and urine, cuts and sores on him from what appeared to be extended crate time. He was returned to the shelter after 3 years in this condition after being adopted from them at a year old. Even with all of that against him he has the sweetest spirit and truly just wants to be the perfect companion to someone.

He is a BIG boy and still is working on not looking at his humans in the eyes by putting his paws on their shoulders, leash manners, and overall obedience. Luther should be treated like a puppy in the regard of teaching him new things and the structure and rules in his new home to best set him up for success. He would much prefer an active home that doesn’t regard 30 minute walks 3 times a day as “active” . He would love a dog sibling that is fast like him with a more submissive personality than a dominant one. He does better with female dogs overall but could get along with the proper handling if a male dog was present.

Small animals in the home excite him so preferably no cats as he will chase them. This is truly a stellar dog that was dealt a shitty hand by people who thought going to the bathroom outside, water and food were not necessary for him for however long and he now deserves a life that he could only dream of before. He is currently being boarded and going through a day training program where he gets to socialize, work on his dog skills and become more secure in his own skin.

He shows food insecurity due to being starved and exhibits guarding behavior with other dogs over high value resources but not towards humans. Adopter would be required to follow a management plan that has been put into place by the trainer he is staying with in order to prevent any further resource guarding from developing with resident dogs.

Apps can be found on our website.

Please note that this process may take up to seven days so your patience is appreciated as we receive many applications each day and have many animals to care for. Once the application is approved, the adopter is contacted and arrangements are made to complete the adoption contract and take their new animal home. You will be required to read and sign the adoption contract before we will give the animal to you. Fees will generally be $175 per cat and $400 per dog. But each animal is unique and their fees may vary. See each pet’s individual pricing for the adoption fee.
