Luna-Courtesy Post-Not an LELRR dog's Story
Meet Luna

Luna is a sweet, smart, and incredibly lovable 7-year-old, approximately 40-pound Dachshund/Lab mix who looks a lot like a miniature Labrador. She is currently living in Clinton, OH with her mom, dad and 2 children and one other dog.

Luna has a beautiful brown and black coat, the sweetest grayish snout, and a personality that has made her such a special part of our family.

This is an incredibly difficult decision for the family, and Luna is being rehomed through absolutely no fault of her own. The family has changed significantly over the years, and with two very young children, busy schedules, and frequent traveling, they simply aren't able to give Luna the time, attention, exercise, and companionship she deserves. More than anything, they want the next chapter of her life to be filled with love, adventure, and a family who has the time to truly enjoy her.

Luna has always loved being outdoors. She loves walks, exploring, and simply having the opportunity to be outside. She would thrive with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle or has the time and space to let her enjoy the outdoors regularly.

She is extremely smart, a quick learner, and has completed formal training in the past, which she responded to very well. Like many smart dogs, she does best with consistency and structure. When that consistency slips, some of her training can regress, so her future family should be willing to continue working with her.

Luna has lived with another dog for years without any issues and has also done very well with the dogs of family and friends. She has lived with two young children and has been nothing but wonderful with them. She has never lived with cats, so they cannot confidently say how she would do in a home with them.

The biggest area Luna needs continued work on is leash training around other dogs. As a puppy, Luna was attacked by a German Shepherd, and they believe that experience contributed to some anxiety when she feels restrained. She can become reactive toward other dogs while on a leash, particularly when she feels she cannot move away from the situation. This behavior has not been an issue when she is comfortably interacting with familiar dogs. Her anxiety and reactivity are specifically most noticeable when she feels restrained.

The family wants to be completely transparent about this so Luna can be placed with someone who understands her and is willing to continue building her confidence. She had been improving and responds well to training, however her family has been busy and Luna will likely need a "refresher".

Luna is up to date on her vaccinations and preventative care, including heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

At 7 years old, Luna still has so much love, companionship, and adventure to give. She isn't looking for a perfect family. She's looking for someone who has a little more time to give her than we currently can. Someone who will take her for walks, let her enjoy the outdoors, keep up with her training, and give her the attention and companionship she deserves.

The loves Luna deeply, which is exactly why they are making such a difficult decision. Keeping her simply because saying goodbye is hard doesn't feel fair when they know there may be a family out there who can give her more of the life she loves.

The family's greatest hope is that however many years Luna has ahead of her, they are happy, active, loved, and fulfilling ones.

If you think you could be the right home for Luna or would like to learn more about her, please reach out:

Phone: 740-238-3456
Email: dallasmontag@yahoo.com
