Luna's Story

COURTESY POST - contact Beige 561-707-9976 [LOCATED IN DELRAY BEACH, FL)

Lunas story begins with heartbreak, but it doesnt end there.

She was found abandoned and tied to a gas station, still lactating after recently giving birth. Her puppies were nowhere to be found. Neglected, confused, and left behind by the people she trusted most, Luna entered Animal Care & Control scared, overwhelmed, and alone.

The shelter environment was incredibly difficult for her. Having lost her family, her puppies, and everything familiar, Luna struggled with the stress and uncertainty around her. Over time, she became increasingly shut down and withdrawn. The loving, playful dog she truly was simply wasnt visible behind the kennel door.

Thankfully, Hospitality Helping Hands Rescue saw beyond her circumstances and gave her a second chance.

The Luna you see today is the result of months of patience, veterinary care, force-free training, proper nutrition, and love.

When Luna entered rescue, she was overweight, uncomfortable, and struggling with untreated allergies. Through dedicated care and a carefully managed diet, she has lost over 20 pounds, her skin has healed, and her overall health has dramatically improved. Most importantly, she has learned that people can be kind, routines can be predictable, and she is finally safe.

Today, Luna is a loving, intelligent, and deeply loyal companion. She is potty trained, walks beautifully on a leash, knows several basic commands, and enjoys learning through positive reinforcement. She has successfully lived with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship.

Luna enjoys the simple things in life: quiet nature walks, sunshine, enrichment activities, and spending time with the people she loves. Once she feels safe and comfortable, her playful personality shines through. She absolutely loves her toys and enjoys daily play sessions, often proudly carrying them around or entertaining herself with her favorites.

Because of her past experiences, Luna can be nervous around unfamiliar people and prefers slow introductions at her own pace. She is a sensitive dog who takes time to build trust, but once someone becomes part of her circle, she is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and devoted.

Luna is not looking for a silent or low-energy home. She has done well with children and enjoys being part of family life. What she needs most is predictability. She thrives when she knows who her people are and can build strong, lasting relationships with them. A home without a constant stream of unfamiliar visitors will help Luna feel secure and continue building confidence. She does best when introductions to new people are thoughtful, gradual, and on her terms.

While Luna has made tremendous progress, she can still become uneasy around unfamiliar people in certain situations, including when strangers approach a vehicle she is in. She continues to make progress through force-free training and would do best with an adopter who understands reactive or behaviorally sensitive dogs and is committed to continuing the work that has helped her come so far.

Luna also requires a strict diet to manage her allergies and keep her feeling her best. Due to her high prey drive, she is seeking a home without cats or other small animals.

Because Luna takes time to build trust and settle into new environments, we strongly encourage a one- to two-week trial period for approved adopters. This gives Luna the opportunity to decompress, establish a routine, and begin forming a relationship with her potential family. It also allows adopters to get to know the real Lunanot just the dog they meet during a brief introduction.

Our goal is to ensure that both Luna and her future family feel comfortable, confident, and set up for long-term success. We believe that taking the time to build a strong foundation helps create the best possible match for everyone involved.

Despite everything she has enduredbeing abandoned while nursing puppies, losing her family, shutting down in a shelter environment, battling painful allergies, and spending months waiting for someone to choose herLuna continues to open her heart and trust again.

She isnt looking for a perfect family.

Shes looking for a committed one.

Someone who understands that trust takes time. Someone who will celebrate how far she has come, continue helping her grow, and love her for the incredible dog she is.

After everything Luna has survived, she deserves a family that will never give up on her again.

Could that family be yours?
